Job Summary:

The Special Education Assessment Specialist - Hourly supports special education evaluation processes by administering student achievement assessments. The incumbent conducts standardized academic evaluations to support eligibility determinations and re-evaluations in compliance with state and federal special education guidelines.

Essential Functions:

  • Administers student academic achievement assessments with fidelity in accordance with publisher guidelines and district protocols.
  • Accurately score and document results of the student academic achievement assessments.
  • Maintains student confidentiality and secure handling of all testing materials and data in compliance with FERPA and IDEA regulations.
  • Schedules assessments in coordination with school staff and student needs to minimize instructional disruption.
  • Submits completed assessment protocols and scoring summaries within district-established timelines.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of assessment procedures and legal requirements under IDEA and the Utah State Board of Education Special Education Rules.
  • Organize and maintain testing materials, request replenishments as needed, and ensure proper storage and return of test kits.
  • Participates in relevant team meetings, virtually or in person, when requested to share evaluation results or provide assessment clarification.
  • Communicates professionally with school staff and evaluation team members.
  • Travels between school sites as required; mileage reimbursed per district policy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the evaluation process.

Required Education, Training and Qualifications:

  • Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) cleared criminal background check.
  • Requires one of the following:
    • a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Special Education license areas of concentration; or
    • an equivalent license in another state or country.

  • Interacts and collaborates with students, parents, other employees, administrators, and secretaries in schools.

  • Work takes place in a typical school environment.
  • Work requires travel between various district locations in all types of weather and air quality.
