Job Summary

We're seeking a motivated 3 rd. year apprentice to join our facilities maintenance team with a focus on Chiller repair and maintenance. This apprenticeship is designed to provide comprehensive hands-on training and practical knowledge in maintenance operations within an educational institution environment. The apprentice will work directly under experienced refrigeration technicians to develop essential skills in HVAC-R maintenance while supporting the overall facilities management operations. Must always demonstrate a high level of safety awareness and understand emergency procedures and Health & Safety protocols.

Program Duration

The program will last for the duration of the apprenticeship, with opportunities for growth and development within the company thereafter upon completion of apprenticeship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Shadow and assist experienced HVAC-R technicians during chiller maintenance & repair tasks.
  • Identify common maintenance issues through quarterly chiller preventative maintenance.
  • Assist with carrying out corrective maintenance tasks associated with large tonnage chillers.
  • Help with fundamental electrical maintenance including sensor replacement and sensor calibrations.
  • Document maintenance activities in the CMMS system.
  • Maintain inventory of chiller spares and adequate inventory levels.
  • Assist with equipment installation under supervision of senior technicians when required.
  • Support the maintenance team with other general tasks as assigned.
  • Conduct building walks to identify maintenance issues and document findings.
  • Collaborate with the Building Operations Team to report defective equipment and arrange for repairs.
  • Assist with contractor coordination and vendor management processes.
  • Help manage and maintain safety equipment and participate in safety training sessions.
  • Assist with creating and updating maintenance documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Support sustainability initiatives related to building systems and resource conservation.
  • Participate in team meetings to gain exposure to facilities management planning and decision-making.

Requirements

  • Be already enrolled in Solal apprenticeship program.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in facilities management.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn technical skills.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 15kg and work in various positions.

  • Eagerness to learn and develop technical maintenance skills.
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Strong attention to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation purposes.

  • Adaptability and openness to learning across multiple facilities disciplines.
