Job Description Summary

The Construction Manager for Norway/Denmark is responsible for overseeing the entire scope of construction site activities within these regions. They act under the direction of and on behalf of the North/South Europe Construction Leader.

Our business in this region is growing rapidly. You could be providing expertise to our ITO team and deciding how we approach a project to ensuring the Site Managers have everything they need. And ultimately driving a “What good looks like” standard across Norway and Denmark.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement the site works strategy defined by the NSE Construction & Commissioning Leadership
  • Lead site teams in these regions.
  • Manage the execution of project scope across multiple construction sites in Norway and Denmark.
  • Ensure alignment with SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost) objectives.
  • Support the execution of regional strategy and governance initiatives specific to Norway and Denmark.

Scope during ITO

  • Assist the NSE Region ITO Leader in defining the contracting strategy for Norway/Denmark as directed.
  • Participate in project teams from feed stages through completion.

Scope during OTR

  • Ensure safe and sustainable operation and maintenance of construction sites in Norway and Denmark.
  • Apply the defined contracting and construction strategy consistently as provided by the NSE Construction Leader.
  • Ensure timely definition and issuance of sub-contracts under the guidance of EHS, Quality, Planning, Contract Management & Sourcing.
  • Lead the mobilization, oversight, and performance management of construction professionals in these regions.
  • Ensure safe, high-quality, and cost-effective construction execution.
  • Own the functional governance of Site Managers, and Field Supervisors in Norway and Denmark.
  • Drive the Construction operating rhythm across country construction sites.
  • Act as an initial escalation point for project construction-related risks and issues.
  • Integrate client EHS and Quality requirements in project documentation.
  • Implement the Last Planner System on all construction sites.
  • Manage risks and opportunities related to Construction activities.
  • Identify changes in project scope and secure opportunities for margin improvement.
  • Prepare staffing plans and mobilize site teams.
  • Set goals and objectives for site management professionals.
  • Ensure adherence to Gate Reviews and drive constructability reviews.
  • Liaise cross-functionally for timely issuance of inputs required for site works.
  • Initiate implementation of CMS (Completion Management System) and define Turn Over Packages.
  • Support project leadership during key client meetings.
  • Attend Project Reviews.
  • Forecast Construction CAPEX expenditure in conjunction with the NSE Construction Leader and Regional Construction and Commissioning Leader.

  • Internal: NSE Commissioning Leader, Project Director, Project Managers, Project Engineering Director, Lead Project Controller, Project Commissioning Manager, Project Design entities, Site Managers.
  • External: Customers, Subcontractors, Staffing Agencies in Norway and Denmark.

Health and Safety

  • Demonstrate EHS leadership.
  • Ensure application of GEV’s EHS Policy and procedures.
  • Implement STOP WORK POLICY.
  • Communicate regularly on policy & process.
  • Reward and encourage proactive EHS steps.
  • Participate in EHS Gemba walks and lead improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and evaluate EHS risks and implement practical measures.
  • Set an example by demonstrating proper acts and observing work conditions.
  • Promote identification of hazards and near misses.
  • Define corrective actions for unsafe work or uncontrolled risks.

Quality

  • Adhere to and ensure site compliance with Quality Procedures.
  • Ensure robust reporting of non-conformances.
  • Ensure site procedures are in place and understood.
  • Capture and collect key information for Lessons Learned.
  • Initiate and participate in improvement actions on Construction processes.

People Management

  • Lead and manage site teams to meet performance standards and project objectives.
  • Ensure Construction professionals have the right skills and competency.
  • Identify new Site Management and Field talent and appropriate training programs.
  • Forecast Construction Professionals Headcount requirements for Norway and Denmark.

Key Performance Indicator Management and Reporting

  • Provide timely status and metrics of site activities performance.
  • Report on safety project metrics, Last Planner System indicators, sub-contract status, and spend vs budget.
  • Summarized reporting of Construction activities across the portfolio of projects in Norway and Denmark.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Appropriate qualification in Civil / Electrical Engineering, degree level with ideally10 years of work experience (equivalent experience considered).
  • Health and safety experience, training, and qualifications in line with Norwegian and Danish standards.
  • Background in Construction Management on complex substation projects or similar.
  • Experience in installation and commissioning of key project elements (Civil Works, Building services & auxiliaries, HV substation equipment, Control & Protection system, Commissioning).
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and good industry practice specific to Norway and Denmark.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards and specifications for civil and electrical works in these regions.
  • Some experience in offshore platforms E&I works (advantageous).
  • Frequent travel to various project sites and yards across Norway and Denmark.
  • Ability to work remotely but integrate with the GE Vernova's wider team.
  • Effective communication skills and proficiency in ENGLISH and preferably Norwegian and/or Danish.
  • IT proficiency including collaborative platforms & tools.
