Job Description Summary
The Facilities General Utility Technician supports the overall maintenance and operations of the facility by performing a wide range of general maintenance, repair, and utility tasks. This role assists in ensuring the cleanliness, safety, functionality, and appearance of building systems, equipment, and grounds. Duties include light plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, furniture moves, and general support for facilities projects and operations.
This position requires versatility, a strong work ethic, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving. The ideal candidate is dependable, adaptable, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.
Job Description
Experience & Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1–3 years of experience in general building maintenance or related trades (custodial, utility work, handyman services) preferred
- Basic knowledge of building systems: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, mechanical operations
- Experience using hand/power tools, ladders, lifts, testing and maintenance equipment
- Familiarity with safety regulations, PPE, and standard operating procedures
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, safety guidelines, and basic blueprints/diagrams is a plus

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance: plumbing, electrical, painting, patching, carpentry
- Assist with equipment/furniture moves and office setups
- Inspect common areas, restrooms, lighting, and mechanical rooms
- Support HVAC, electrical, and plumbing teams with prep and labor
- Respond to work orders and service requests professionally and promptly
- Maintain clean and organized workspaces and storage areas
- Perform groundskeeping: sweeping, trash removal, minor landscaping
- Operate ladders, lifts, vacuums, pressure washers, and basic power tools
- Follow safety procedures: PPE, lockout/tagout, tool handling
- Document work using logs, checklists, or CMMS software
- Provide emergency support during weather events or urgent repairs
- Collaborate with vendors and contractors during facility projects
Work Environment
- Mix of office, industrial, and outdoor settings
- Uses both maintenance tools and standard office equipment
- May work solo during certain shifts or extended hours for emergencies
- May require shift work, overtime, or on-call availability
Physical Demands
- Use ladders and lifting equipment to work at heights
- Perform outdoor work year-round
- Communicate clearly and operate computers and tools
- Move frequently; minimal stationary time
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Extend hands and arms in various directions

The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on factors such as whether the position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, the geographic area in which the work will be performed, market pay rates in that area, and the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.
The compensation for the position is: $20.40 - $24.00
