Role Overview: This leadership position is accountable for the business unit’s performance, operational excellence, client experience, resiliency, and organizational effectiveness. The successful candidate will inspire, guide, and empower managers and teams, while driving alignment with the organization’s culture and long-term strategic objectives. This leader will shape strategic direction, oversee financial performance, and drive talent development to ensure the function consistently delivers high-impact, measurable results.
Major Duties:
- Accountable for the business unit’s performance and profitability as compared to plan - develop, communicate, and oversee an overall strategy to meet both the Business Unit's and Corporation's strategic plan.
- Develop key metrics required to ensure the IOO service runs to expectation, and to enable the services to be monitored effectively to facilitate continuous improvement through the identification of adverse trends coupled with action plans to remediate.
- Work effectively with Audit, Compliance and Risk to ensure SLA’s, KPI's and procedures/controls are both effective and consistent across IOO globally.
- Ensure effective high-quality delivery of ongoing change for clients and business unit objectives
- Proactively enforce, remediate, and escalate risk issues.
- Enhance operational efficiency to support the firm and our clients’ business objectives
- Assume accountability for financial and staffing resources, including developing and managing capital and expense budgets, liaising cross-function to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.
- Manage multiple units or functions through the direct management of a group of managers.
- Drive cross functional and global collaboration by actively partnering with peers and stakeholders across regions and function to achieve shared objectives and deliver operational outcomes
- Lead strategic and tactical projects from planning through execution, ensuring alignment with business goals and operational readiness
- Promote a culture of inclusion, accountability, and continuous improvement
Knowledge:
- In-depth investment operations knowledge or general operational management required
- Contextual knowledge of end-to-end investment operations and its role within the wider financial services industry is helpful
- Excellent written and interpersonal skills, with an ability to summarize complex matters effectively.
- Highly flexible and adaptable to change.
- Knowledge of business strategy development is necessary to provide long-term planning and to manage the profitability/performance of a major business segment.
- Leadership and organizational skills are required to direct the activities for the multiple units.
Experience:
- 15+ years of proven leadership in operational management, strategy, and client service delivery within financial services
- Experience working with investment professionals, e.g., portfolio managers, chief investment officers, compliance officers, traders.
- Contextual knowledge of end-to-end investment operations and it’s role within the wider financial services industry.
- Experience working with outsourced service vendors providing custody, transfer agency, fund accounting or middle office services.
- Demonstrated success managing senior level managers and individual contributors.
- Ability to build a strategy around a vision and execute directing resources from across multiple teams.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Track record of building inclusive, high-performance cultures
- Strategic acumen and the ability to translate vision into actionable plans
Salary Range:
$154,300 - 269,900 USD
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
