Due to continuous growth and expansion, Pharmathen Pharmaceuticals offers a great opportunity for career development and is seeking to recruit a Health, Safety & Environmental Lead for the Industrial Operations division in our Pallini premises.
As a HSE Lead, the ideal candidate will execute health, safety, and evacuation plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines and internal procedures. He/ She will identify, draft and implement strategy and approach to improve the company's environmental profile and footprint, improve resource efficiency, promote sustainable practices across all business operations, develop and execute environmental initiatives, monitor compliance with applicable regulations, and drive continuous improvement in environmental performance.
More particularly:
What you will do:
- Provide Health and Safety measures, assess risks associated with tools and equipment, jobsites, and work environments within their assigned research market
- Participate in the development and implementation of the corporate environmental sustainability strategy and approach aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives
- Support staff with the identification of environmental aspects and determining the project objectives and target
- Monitor, communicate internally and ensure compliance with local, regional, and international ESG reporting and environmental sustainability regulations, standards, and guidelines
- Monitor and recommend solutions to issues that need improvement, design strategies to reduce incidents of illness, environmental accidents, and other issues that may affect public safety
- Develop hazard control processes, methods, and programs and monitor implementation of safety plans according to plans and objectives
- Prepare future safety plans based on past experiences and facts, design training programs to provide safety awareness education
- Support the Top Management in the Health & Safety Policy and Guidelines issue, in the Organization roles and responsibilities definition, for what concerns safety aspects and Health & Safety Management System standard issue
- Maintain and manage equipment and processes related to each project of HSE
- Be responsible for the ISO 14001 compliance, follow up and maintenance
- Provide management teams with guidance on Health & Safety and confirm that the projects fulfill industry and federal guidelines
- Collaborate with internal departments to establish and maintain an effective environmental management system to identify, monitor, and control environmental aspects and impacts
- Conduct regular audits to assess compliance with environmental policies and procedures and coordinate corrective actions in collaboration with internal departments
- Risk Assessment and Management. Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize workplace hazards
- Incident Investigation and Reporting. Lead investigations into workplace incidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence. Prepare and submit incident reports to regulatory bodies as required
- Participate in and coordinate data collection for the preparation of Annual Sustainability Reports, CDP, SBTi and other international standards in collaboration with internal departments
- Emergency Preparedness - Develop and maintain emergency response plans, ensuring they are effective and up to date. Coordinate with local emergency services to ensure a swift response in case of an emergency
- Continuous Improvement (Track progress through measurable KPIs)
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably focused on environment)
- 7-10 years of relevant experience in HSE field
- Proven people management experience
Job-Specific Skills:
- Excellent communication in English language (writing & speaking)
- Experience in research, data analysis and drafting of sustainability reports
- Experience with or knowledge of standards, initiatives, and methodologies for sustainability (Carbon footprinting, GRI, SASB, Global Compact, CDP, SBTi, Water stewardship)
- Experience or academic background on Scope 3 and/or LCA/life cycle assessments
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess data, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple initiatives simultaneously
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
- Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) and experience in conducting audits is desirable
- Passion for sustainability and a genuine commitment to driving positive environmental change
