About the role

The Head of Risk Advisory – Operations, Technology, People & Culture plays a pivotal role in ensuring that Cbus’ trustee and fund administration divisions operate within a robust risk and compliance framework.

Reporting to the Group Head of Risk Advisory, you will partner with Operations, Technology, (including Data and Cyber) and People & Culture teams to provide strategic, accurate and timely risk and compliance advice. You will also be responsible for overseeing risk registers, tolerance levels and compliance plans, and reviewing data trends and regulatory changes to ensure the business units remain aligned with Cbus’ risk appetite and obligations.

This role is critical to embedding a strong risk culture across Cbus, influencing senior leaders and stakeholders to adopt sound governance and compliance practices. By fostering maturity in risk management and supporting strategic initiatives, the Head of Risk Advisory helps safeguard the organisation’s integrity and operational resilience.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the Group Head of Risk Advisory in driving risk and compliance culture across Cbus by influencing executives and senior leaders
  • Provide timely, strategic risk and compliance advice, overseeing risk registers, profiles and tolerance levels
  • Build trusted relationships with business units, guiding and influencing stakeholders while supervising Risk Advisory team members
  • Lead breach assessments, incident remediation and ensure compliance with regulatory obligations and change initiatives
  • Prepare risk reporting for executive and board forums, contribute to internal audits and promote compliance through training and forums

What will you bring?

  • Experience in a similar Head of Risk Advisory or similar Compliance related role ideally in Superannuation, Financial Services or related industry
  • Proven ability to build trust and credibility across all levels and implement business partnerships within a Three Lines of Accountability model, supporting advice programs that meet both member and regulatory needs
  • Strong working knowledge of financial services law and regulatory obligations, with experience delivering compliant member and employer communications
  • Demonstrated success in leading high performing teams, translating strategic priorities into operational outcomes and driving continuous improvement
  • An understanding of relevant technology risk related frameworks / standards e.g. CoBIT, NIST, ITIL, APRA standards (especially CPS234) and practical experience in assessing and mitigating technology risks would be beneficial
  • A solid understanding of the current and emerging technology risk threat landscape including cybersecurity and data management. Technology risk management, assurance and governance certification such as CISA, CISM, CRISC, CGEIT, CISSP would be an advantage, but is not essential.
