Mortgage Underwriter - Capital City Home Loans

Hours: Mon- Fri 40 Hours

General Summary

All underwriters must carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. We consistently treat all borrowers equally and fairly to comply with Fair Lending.

Responsible for, but not limited to, the underwriting of residential loans ensuring compliance with appropriate company and secondary market investor standards. A Mortgage Underwriter will be responsible for examining loan documentation for accuracy and completeness while working with Loan Officers and Loan Processors to secure all required documents. Maintains proficient client service levels between branch personnel and processors.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Represents the company in a professional and enthusiastic manner by providing an exceptional level of client service.

  • Responds to the underwriting help desk as required.
  • Responsible for meeting per day requirements as outlined in CCHL's outlined workflow.
  • Responds to FHA Quality Control reports: outlining exceptions questioning approval of loans. Responds to Investor post-closing issues when necessary.
  • Reviews preliminary application, RESPA/TILA, program requirements and credit package for loan eligibility.
  • Reviews FHA exception requests.

Associates will consistently follow policies and procedures as established by Capital City Bank, Capital City Investments, Capital City Trust Company, and Capital City Home Loans, with department managers setting the standard.

Associated Duties

Provides additional support to manager and department colleagues.

Completes all assigned/required Bank training within established timelines.

Pursues training and development opportunities to continuously build knowledge and skills.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Required

The following KSAs are usually acquired through work experience and/or specialized course(s):

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and judgment skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of FHA, VA and conventional financing and investor guidelines.
  • Must show strong capacity to address credit related issues and points of risk to ensure that underwriting meets quality assurance standards.
  • Thorough understanding of credit and an ability to review complex financial documents.
  • Ability to assess an individual's creditworthiness while adhering to all regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, while practicing sound lending judgment.
  • Proficient with computers and strong typing skills.
  • Ability to review and analyze electronic documentation

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or related field, from an accredited college required. Relevant experience may substitute for the education requirement. 5- 7 years’ experience as an Underwriter a plus. FHA and VA underwriting experience preferred. Direct Endorsement certificate required.. Secondary Market product knowledge helpful.

Working Conditions

  • Open office environment or hybrid depending on business needs.
  • In the rare instance of a major or extensive natural disaster, epidemic or pandemic occurrence, or other disruption within our footprint, it may be necessary for associates to relocate or telecommute before, during or after, to ensure business continuity.
