Job Description:

Purpose of the position:

To support, coordinate and advise on legal matters affecting the organization to ensure compliance to various statutory requirement and serve as a vital link between the public and management on legal matters.

This position is also responsible for improving the productivity of the organization’s employees. Assesses company-wide developmental need to drive training initiatives, identifies and arranges suitable training solutions for employees. This position actively searches, creatively designs and implements effective methods to educate, enhance and recognize performance.

Key Outputs/Responsibilities (Accountabilities and results)

1. Institute legal proceedings on behalf of the organization

2. Respond to correspondences and complaints with legal implication from WV partnership, Government, general public etc.

3. Represent the organization in all judicial quasi-judicial functions.

4. Coordinates drafting and Vets all the contracts entered into between the organization and other parties.

5. Provide monthly report on litigation pending at the courts and at the labor inspection.

6. Asses legal risks and advise management on necessary amendments to the organization policies, rules and regulations; Keep & update regularly the P&C Risks Register.

7. Coordinate the activities of external legal counsels and legal firms acting on behalf of the organization if any.

8. Ensure that all the organization’s statutory documents are safely kept and statutory returns are timely filed.

9. Coordinate with “P&C Officer” the notification of decision before any change such as: transfer, appointment and promotion.

10. Conduct investigation in case of complaints from employee for general harassment or sexual harassment – P&C incidents – Safeguarding etc. AND Provide clear guidance’s on disciplinary actions when Investigation Reports are generated.

LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

1. Review WV DRC strategic People Learning and Growth annual plans, liaise with divisions to consolidate data by gathering Information on amount/budget - key learning programs -Bonding Agreements etc…and identify need for changes to the organization’s structure and Teams.

2. Institute legal proceedings on behalf of the organization.

3. Evaluate strategies and annual plans, performance appraisal results and individual development plans (IDPs) as well as Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) and liaise with divisions to identify need for learning and development that facilitate the effective execution of business plans.

4. Provide support to WV DRC in conducting specific needs analysis for L&D, designing learning solutions and sourcing service providers required to meet identified needs.

5. Advise on learning and development resources available through WV E-Campus – other in-house trainings, locally across the region or at global level.

6. Prepare and share annual training calendars and budget.

7. Tracking IDPs for Talent Pool members and other staff.

8. Tracking PIPs for Low & under Performing staff.

9. Provide evaluation reports of locally coordinated learning interventions.

10. Monitor & maintain processes and measures for determining the impact of learning and development activities to support required reports and analytics as required to aid decision making.

11. Liaise with the regional People & Culture team to track all global & regional compliance training.

  • Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Minimum Qualification required: Bachelor Degree in Law, Human Resources, Public Administration or related field.
  • Experience: 2 to 3 years in similar position or related field.
  • Preferred: 5 years of experience in the legal field, ideally with INGO or related field
  • Technical Skills & Abilities :
  • Computer skills is strongly recommended
  • Practice in Labour causes
  • Knowledge of DRC Labor Law and local regulations
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff, public and other stakeholders
  • Requires excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Requires English fluency, both written and spoken
  • Must have knowledge of HR policies
  • Requires confidentiality

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Mainly Office-based with External Engagement activities and some travels to the field
  • Travel: 10% Domestic/international travel is required.
  • On call: 20%
