Actual starting pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.

These discretionary target bonuses may be awarded semi-annually based upon your achievement of performance goals and targets.

About This Job

Axos is seeking a Senior Collector who will be responsible for working with vendors in the management of insurance claims, insurance coverage and bankruptcy follow-up. This includes some hands-on activity working with attorneys, trustees and insurance companies, as well as some customer contact. Mitigates loss and legal risk to the company and investors by accurately managing the bankruptcy and insurance process including obtaining relief from bankruptcy on non-performing loans. Communicates with attorneys, insurance agents, court appointed trustees and borrowers to answer questions related to the bankruptcy and insurance. Handles routine levels of transactions with oversight by senior staff and managers to complete daily tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Repossession: Assign and monitor repossession agents, track recovery timelines, and ensure compliance with state/federal laws
  • Credit Reporting: Apply FCRA and Metro 2 standards, investigate borrower disputes, and resolve errors within required timeframes
  • Remarketing: Manage post-repossession resale processes, including auction coordination, bid acceptance, and deficiency balance calculation
  • Bankruptcy (BK): Handle Chapter 7 & 13 processes, including proof of claim filings, reaffirmation agreements, stay compliance, and discharge management
  • Total Loss: Process insurance total loss claims, coordinate with carriers and GAP providers, and ensure timely application of insurance/GAP proceeds
  • Marine Lending: Handle specialized repossession and resale processes for boats, ensuring compliance with lien perfection and titling requirements
  • Auto & Unsecured Loans: Apply backend collection strategies, deficiency collection, charge-off handling, and settlement negotiations
  • GAP & Warranty Cancellations: Submit cancellation requests to providers, track refund status, and ensure proceeds are applied accurately and timely to customer accounts or deficiency balances
  • Skilled in use of collection systems (e.g., Five9, iGrafx, Salesforce, or similar), vendor portals, and skip-tracing tools

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in Business, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of collections experience, with at least 2 years in backend collections (repossession, remarketing, bankruptcy, total loss, or credit reporting)
  • Familiarity with consumer lending products including auto, marine, and unsecured loans
  • Knowledge of federal and state collection regulations (FDCPA, SCRA, TCPA, Reg F, FCRA, UCC)
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with borrowers, insurance carriers, and vendors
  • Ability to calculate deficiencies, insurance payouts, and GAP/warranty refunds accurately
  • Detail-oriented with strong compliance focus in documentation and account resolution
  • Problem-solving skills to resolve escalated or complex backend issues.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities to prioritize multiple backend functions
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload with minimal supervision
  • Professionalism, integrity, and empathy in borrower and vendor interactions
  • Flexibility to adapt to regulatory changes, new technologies, and evolving processes
