THE POSITION

The Systems Project team has an immediate opening for a Principal Project Engineer in support of the HTF NG turbofan engine program.

The Systems Project Engineer will lead the Performance, Operability, Secondary Flow and the Reliability, Maintainability, and Systems Safety (RMSS) work packages. This is a Cost Account Manager (CAM) role that will plan, execute, and ensure requirements compliance. The selected individual will provide leadership related to the specific systems assigned, including technical attributes, requirements development, decomposition, flow-down, validation and verification, and certification. The selected person will also ensure requirements definition, allocation, decomposition, verification, and validation are carried out properly through the work packages assigned. The selected Systems Project Engineer will work with a broad span of internal functional groups as well as support requirements and systems level development and trade discussions with external customer(s).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and ensure design and development activity of the engine systems are in compliance with all technical requirements. This includes executing the Cycle Producibility Report (CPR) and development of various program plans.
  • Ensure all technical, regulatory, and program requirements are achieved for the powerplant system for the assigned work packages.
  • Ensure scope is executed on on-time by actively managing scope, budget, and schedule for the assigned work packages.
  • Identify, document, and manage risks for your assigned scope.
  • CAM for the Performance, Operability, Secondary Flow, and RMSS work packages
  • Act as a mentor for the organization
  • Broad indirect span of control of approximately 10 full time equivalent engineers.
  • Investigate broad, complex, and ambiguously defined challenges, rally team consensus around the scope and approach to resolution and lead the team to resolution.
  • Expected to serve as the single point leader for the project team
  • Single point of contact to the program for the assigned module or system
  • Leadership capability with diverse, cross functional team
  • Escalate effectively with leadership and cross-functionally across the organization
  • Strong commitment to customer satisfaction
  • Bias toward creative thinking and innovation in product design and approach to everyday work
  • Solid working knowledge of and commitment to IPDS processes
  • Promote and build strong team working relationships
  • Manage within very difficult resource constraints, including all areas for which the team is responsible but for which the individual may not be an expert
  • Identify gaps and risks on behalf of the team
  • Close enough to work of team members to recognize when they are “stuck” or “off track”
  • Strong systems knowledge and requirements development, decomposition, validation, and verification.

U.S. CITIZEN REQUIREMENTS

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a US Citizen: a person who was born anywhere in the United States or its territories, including Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands, or who obtained U.S. citizenship through naturalization.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Due to US export control laws, must be a US Citizen, permanent resident, or have protected status
  • Bachelor’s Degree Aerospace, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years directly related engineering experience in the design, development, manufacture, and/or test of gas turbine engines

  • Demonstrated budget and schedule management skills in today’s EVMS environment. Direct project management training, such as PE academy, PMP certification, or other project management courses a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IPDS processes and tools
  • Excellent oral and written communications.
  • Experience working with Performance, Operability, Secondary flow, and/or RMSS.
  • Prior CAM/EVMS experience on large development programs
