The Engineering Manager will report to the Director of Engineering. You will manage our Engineering Leads and QA Automation team. You’ll be responsible for their success: making sure they are productive and motivated. You’ll work closely with the Director of Product, fine-tuning our product development process and making sure that the most impactful projects are getting the right attention. You’ll lead the process of recruiting and hiring new team members.

Flocabulary's web application runs on Django and Python on the server-side, and React/React Router/Flux on the client-side.

With the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for the productivity of our tech team. Specifically, you will:

  • Manage and coach ~6 Engineering Leads
  • Refine and communicate a vision for our engineering process
  • Collaborate closely with our Director of Product to make sure each pod is staffed correctly and able to accomplish its goals
  • Lead the recruitment and onboarding process for new engineers
  • Zoom in on technical problems, writing code or architecting, when helpful


  • 4+ years as an engineer
  • 2+ years managing other engineers
  • Great communication skills and can easily switch between discussing projects at a high level and at a more granular level
  • Excellent eye for detail
  • Familiarity with Python, SQL, JS and general programming skills; experience with Django and React is a plus
