Role Overview

The Manager, HR Business Partner contributes to and leads the execution on human resources strategies and initiatives in partnership with the HR Business Partner(s) and HR Center of Excellence (COEs) to support the current and future needs of the business. This role facilitates all HR services for the client group she or he supports through collaboration with the clients, HR COEs other HR business partners. The role serves as an expert consultant to business leaders on all talent matters, including organizational effectiveness, leader effectiveness, organizational design and development, retention of critical talent, learning needs/opportunities, continuous performance coaching and management, change management, proactive conflict identification and resolution and employee relations.

Duties & Responsibilities

Client Group and Leadership Support

  • Establish and maintain an intimate understanding of the client organizations and the business, in the interest of building effective and productive working relationships with internal stakeholders and clients, at all levels of the organization
  • Proactively assess business and organizational performance to recommend and drive action through a consultative, “influence without authority” approach
  • Anticipate and plan for long-term human resource needs and trends in partnership with business management
  • Coach business leaders on HR policies and processes, including talent planning, learning and development, and performance management to promote engagement and a culture of continuous growth and development
  • Coach business leaders on key organizational and management issues

Organizational Effectiveness and Talent Management

  • Contribute to and lead organization design projects to streamline and implement new structures, roles and/or processes that create efficiency and support shifting business demands
  • Partner with HR Business Partner leaders to assess organizational performance systemically, define talent gaps and propose HR solutions that support client business objectives
  • Partner with HR Business Partner leaders to execute a lifecycle approach to talent management focused on forecasting, staffing, on-boarding, development, performance management, career / succession planning, talent movement and retention, leveraging workforce analytics and insights
  • Collaborate with recruitment, with a strong focus on acquiring and retaining top talent and on building pipeline for future needs and enhancing diverse representation across teams
  • Use understanding of individual strengths and organizational needs to facilitate talent movement into and throughout the organization
  • In partnership with HR COEs and business leaders, develop thoughtful, integrated approaches to promote diversity and inclusion in talent attraction, development, and retention
  • Assess employee training and development needs based on business strategy in order to help close gaps between current and future skill sets

Legal Compliance and Employee Relations

  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues with support from Legal and the Director, HRBP, and conducts effective, thorough, timely and objective investigations
  • Analyze and address root cause where necessary, looking for trends
  • Identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensure policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external (legal) entities that govern HR processes/practices
  • Counsel managers and employees consistent with policies/practices, legal considerations, etc. and facilitate resolution of employee relations issues

HR Departmental Initiatives and COE Partnership

  • Partner with HR COEs and HRBP leaders to identify training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs. Participate in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success for the business units
  • Partner with HRBP leadership to identify, develop and implement training and rotational development programs within Human Resources
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to provide support during the recruiting process (e.g., active participation in the interview process)
  • Consult with Total Rewards on the bonus, merit and promotion processes, as well as supporting the Performance Appraisal process, and continue to assess and make recommendations based on business needs

Experience & Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field

Experience

  • 7+ years Broad-based HR experience including partnering with HR's Center of Excellence (COE) teams HR Shared Services and key client organizations
  • 7+ years Strong background/knowledge in multiple HR disciplines; (i.e. organizational diagnosis, employee engagement, employee relations; leadership development; strategic staffing; performance management; talent management; workforce effectiveness; succession planning; organizational development, org design & effectiveness; legal compliance; compensation; rewards and recognition, etc.)

Licenses/Certifications

  • PHR/SPHR - Professional/Senior Professional in Human Resources

Software/Technical Systems

  • HRIS System

Other Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Experience in strategy development, organizational design, talent management and change management
  • Experience working with senior executives in an “influence-without-authority” role utilizing relationship-building, expertise and data
  • Strong consultative and coaching skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and manage ambiguity – dealing with issues that do not always have a process or a system in place
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a matrixed environment
  • Ability to position self as credible (garners respect, acts with integrity, keeps commitments) with people of diverse backgrounds and professional levels; proactive (has a point of view, challenges assumptions, takes initiative); and a trusted thought-partner (builds relationships, delivers results)

  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws relating to employee benefits (ERISA, IRS, and DOL)
  • Ability to uphold strict confidentiality of HR information

Additional Details for This Role

This role will be a hybrid role. Subject to business needs, employees may work remotely up to two days per week. Assigned office days will be determined by managers.

Base Salary

  • The targeted base salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 year.
  • Base salary is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the successful candidate, as well as factors such as internal equity, cost of labor in the hiring location, and alignment with market data.

Additional Compensation

  • This position is eligible for a 15% bonus at 100% of target, with the opportunity to achieve above 100% dependent on company performance and in alignment with company bonus plans.
  • Bonus awards are discretionary and contingent upon individual performance as well as Brother achieving its corporate objectives, in accordance with the applicable bonus plan in effect.

About Where We Work

Brother’s corporate headquarters for the Americas is in Bridgewater, NJ, across from the Bridgewater Commons Mall. This location houses key corporate functions, including HR, legal, finance, IT, and supply chain, and a significant presence of our business unit leadership and marketing teams. Our manufacturing and distribution facility in Bartlett, TN spans an impressive 1.5 million square feet - equivalent to 26 football fields - and is located on Brother Boulevard. In addition to the distribution center operations team, this facility hosts several other departments, including our customer service group. Brother also has employees based in other locations, such as Westminster, CO, where many of our marketing and product engineering team members from the mobile solutions division operate, as well as our distribution centers in Richmond, VA and Perris, CA. Additionally, our outside sales teams work remotely within their territories, staying geographically close to the accounts they support to ensure they are always “at your side” for our customers.
