This position is for a User Support Specialist in High Performance Computing System Administration group in the Information Technology Services Department at LSU. This position is responsible for maintaining High Performance Computing clusters such that we are able to provide a high quality of service and reliable uptime to our service community. This position also helps to implement new technology both on the clusters and in the infrastructure used to maintain the clusters. All Information Technology Services employees are expected to demonstrate a commitment to exemplary customer service in all facets of their work.
Customer Support: Provide a high degree of technical support and professionalism to the research communities of LSU. This includes, but is not limited to, helping researchers debug their codes, suggesting areas of optimization in both their code and job submission procedures in order to successfully meet their high performance computing goals. Respond to tickets which include complaints, requests, troubleshooting, etc.
Responsible for the creation, organization, presentation and delivery of training materials for both new and highly experienced users of the research clusters to groups or individuals as needed. This includes, but is not limited to, the ability to interact using a variety of enabling technologies and a professional demeanor when meeting with faculty, students, post docs and their collaborators. Provide outreach to create awareness with faculty, students, and others about partner HPC services.
Operations: Plan and perform software maintenance on both the clusters and the cluster infrastructure as needed. This includes, but is not limited to, installing various commercial and open source scientific codes, libraries, or applications. Perform benchmarks for both cluster hardware and software performance.
Research: Collaborates, investigates, architects and implements new technology as appropriate to add new features to both the user environment and to our deployment environment. This also includes developing and documenting procedures related to that technology and to train other members of the group.

Bachelor's degree in a Science or Engineering discipline that requires strong analytical and computational skills and at least three years of experience working on computational research projects utilizing large and complex HPC systems.
Experience Substitute: PhD in Computation Science, Engineering or other Computationally intensive disciplines will substitute for two years of experience.
