Wilson Sonsini is seeking a National Security and Trade Paralegal to support the firm’s highly regarded practice, which advises clients of all sizes, from startups to multinationals, on US national security, foreign policy, and international trade issues.
The National Security and Trade Paralegal will support attorneys in all aspects of the firm’s national security and trade practice, with a focus on international trade and FCC regulatory matters.
This position can be fully remote.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare regulatory filings, including, but not limited to, license applications, classification requests, registration statements, annual and semi-annual reports, and correspondence with regulatory authorities
- Conduct KYC reviews, including restricted party list screening, open source searches, and preparing analysis of search results
- Assist in developing trade compliance policies, procedures and training materials
- Assist with the collection, review, production, and organization of materials for investigations and disclosures
- Conduct research on a variety of trade compliance topics, including export, import, sanctions, antiboycott, etc.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments related to export and import controls, sanctions, FCC regulatory matters, and other national security and trade topics
- Participate in the development of client alerts related to national security, trade topics and other regulatory matters
- Organize client records and maintain files
- Support other team projects on an as needed basis
- Maintain compliance with all firm policies and procedures
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate required
- 3+ years of relevant experience handling international trade compliance or other national security and related regulatory matters in a corporate compliance department or law firm required
- Experience with government filing systems and databases (e.g., SNAP-R, DECCS, SPIRE, ECFS, etc.) and restricted party screening platforms (e.g., WorldCheck, Dow Jones Risk & Compliance, Descartes Visual Compliance, etc.) preferred
- Must possess a high level of attention to detail and be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary client service
- Stellar project management and organizational skills
- Must possess good judgment, intuition and problem solving skills
- Must be reliable and dependable
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and capability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organization in various functions and locations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external clients
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed
The primary location for this job posting is in Washington, D.C.. The actual base pay offered will depend upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to the selected candidate’s qualifications, years of relevant experience, level of education, professional certifications and licenses, and work location. The anticipated pay range for this position is as follows: $43.21 - $58.46 per hour.
The compensation for this position may include overtime and a discretionary year-end merit bonus based on performance. We offer a highly competitive salary and benefits package.
