The Role:

  • As second in command of a Qantas 737 flying trans-Tasman routes, you are required to perform duties as directed by the Pilot in Command (PIC) in accordance with the Jetconnect and Qantas Suite of Operations Manuals
  • As a senior member of the company you will be required to assist the PIC in both the safe and efficient conduct of the flight; as well as being a senior leader of the crew while in slip ports

About You:

As a First Officer you’ll have the following qualifications and experience: 

  • An Australian Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL (A)) or Australian Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL (A)) with passes in all Australian ATPL Theory subjects and a Multi-Crew Cooperation Certificate
  • Endorsements for Instrument Approach 2D and 3D on a CASA Multi Engine Aeroplane Instrument Rating 
  • A current Instrument Proficiency Check (MEA)
  • Level 6 English Language Proficiency on your CASA Licence
  • Current CASA Class 1 Aviation Medical Certificate
  • The ability to hold an Aviation Security card, ASIC (Aust) & AvSec (NZ)
  • Hold a current passport with at least 12 months validity 
  • The right to live and work in New Zealand without restriction or sponsorship

Please note – candidates who have all the above criteria on a NZCAA Licence will need to convert their licence to an Australian CASA Licence via the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement (TTMRA). If a candidate is converting a NZ CPL their NZ ATPL theory exams will not be recognised and they must re-sit the Australian ATPL theory exams or obtain a NZ ATPL Flight Test at their own cost.

Hours Requirements:

  • Total Time: 1,500 hours
  • 500 hours multi engine OR 500 hours single engine turbine
  • One of the following:
  • 250 hours PIC (excluding ICUS & SIM), or
  • 250 hours PIC (may include 180 hours ICUS) and 500 hours as an FO on transport category aircraft

Type Rating provided at no cost to the pilot if they remain employed within the Qantas Group for minimum period of three years.
