About the Role

Based in Zug, Switzerland, and reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), who is based in Toronto, Canada, the Head of Corporate Finance provides strategic direction to the organization, with a focus on accelerating profitable, organic growth; process development; standardization and optimization. This leader has overall responsibility for planning, forecasting, management reporting and analysis and is responsible for creating an environment that will attract, develop, and retain talent.

The Head of Corporate Finance will be responsible for the following:

  • Annual budgeting, forecasting, and planning processes – including setting rolling three-year financial targets for each Customer Segment, Enable Function and Total TR.
  • Reporting of actual monthly results versus Annual Plan and Forecasts – including partnering with Finance and Business leaders from each Customer Segment and Enable Function to develop and implement mitigation plans to ensure financial targets are achieved or exceeded.
  • Preparation of documents (memos, presentations, analysis, etc.) for the CFO as needed for the Board, Audit Committee, HR Committee, CEO Staff Meetings, etc.
  • Being an active participant in the Thomson Reuters Board Audit Committee and Human Resources Committee.
  • Being an active member and leader of the Enterprise Prioritization Committee (responsible for allocating organic capital across the Enterprise), Investment Committee (responsible for acquisition decisions), Risk Committee and Thomson Reuters Enterprise Center (TREC) Board (responsible for enterprise-wide governance).
  • Leading the Finance teams for FP&A, Operations & Technology, Chief Product Officer, and Decision Support Group for Expenses & Investments.
  • Other ad hoc initiatives as requested by the CFO.

Major Areas of Accountability

Process Development and Optimization

  • Annual and monthly planning, actuals and forecasting processes, including financial target management.
  • Manages a global team of colleagues with diverse backgrounds and talent sets.
  • Leads executive level and board reporting, including ad-hoc requests from senior leadership.
  • Develops, standardizes, and optimizes FP&A processes and activities across the Enterprise; approves and oversees all process changes within a Governance model.
  • Sets standards and provides governance to ensure data definitions and flows, processes and tools are uniform and efficient.
  • Adopts an “Automation” and automation mindset, looking to incorporate more efficient and automated ways to work.
  • Identifies leading practices (structure, resources, process, and/or technology) that can strengthen service delivery.
  • Contributes to functional and managerial policies.
  • Reviews the processes and technology around monthly reporting and, particularly, sales / revenue reporting to derive further efficiencies.
  • Ensures process documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Pro-actively identifies opportunities to drive improvements in partnership with the Segment and Function Finance teams working hand in hand with the Decision Support and Insights Group (DSIG).
  • Active member of the Audit and Human Resources Committees
  • Active member of the Enterprise Prioritization Committee, which is responsible for capital allocation.
  • Member of the TR Investment Committee, focusing on acquisitions and divestitures.
  • Manages a global team of ~ 100 colleagues and four direct reports with diverse backgrounds and talent sets.

Performance Management

  • Establishes mutual OKR’s to ensure alignments with business needs and monitors ongoing performance.
  • Uses metrics and performance measures to drive continuous improvement and best practices.

Talent Management

  • Attracts, develops, and retains world-class resources in the Finance function, and builds strong teams with a change mind-set that supports continuous process improvement and elimination of inefficiencies/redundancies.

Stakeholder Management

  • Partners with other Finance and business leaders to identify and resolve potential issues in a timely manner, leverage cross-functional synergies, and achieve consistency and alignment across the FP&A processes.
  • Continuously pushes the Enterprise agenda, demonstrating the business benefits to applicable Stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for this role possesses the following qualifications and experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree combines with 15+ years of experience or a Master’s degree combined with 12+ years of relevant experience. Degree preference in finance, accounting, business, or economics
  • Familiarity with Financial System Tools and associated master data inter-dependencies across numerous core systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization, including the TR Board and CEO Staff Meetings
  • Track-record of success in leading, transforming and navigating a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, influencing global processes and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Tools, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Strong knowledge of Automation applications within Finance (Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML))
  • Significant management experience -- including experience leading, managing, and developing a diverse, global team.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills (i.e., decisiveness and be seen as a reliable decision-maker by others, act in line with company values and integrity, manage through ambiguity, etc.)
  • Ability to build effective relationships and collaborates effectively with partners to develop effective solutions.
  • Extensive knowledge of various Thomson Reuters businesses and products/services is an advantage
