An exciting opportunity is available for a Manager: Community Trust Liaison to work from Johannesburg office. The primary objective of this role is to serve as a dedicated resource supporting Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) in managing its relationship with Community Trusts and overseeing its contributions to the trusts.

Reporting to the GM: Communications & Community Relations you will:

  • Support the RBM Trustee in managing RBM’s relationship with the trustees and trust administrators of the Community Trusts.
  • Develop and execute frameworks and tools for ensuring effective management and good governance of community trusts.
  • Maintain awareness of the Community Trusts activities and the socio-economic conditions and drivers within the host communities.
  • Monitor and report against RBM’s commitments to the Community Trusts.
  • Lead coordination and alignment with other applicable teams within RBM and Rio Tinto in relation to Community Trusts matters
  • Ensure alignment with Rio Tinto’s Communities & Social` Performance (“CSP”) teams and supporting functions to ensure that RBM’s contributions to the Community Trusts form part of RBM’s integrated CSP plan.
  • Provide TOC with regular updates and reports on Trusts’ activities and impact, financial performance and compliance with applicable legislation and corporate governance standards.

What you’ll bring

  • Degree level in auditing/ Finance / Legal/ Business Management studies
  • At least 10 years of experience in trust governance of which 3 year or more at leadership level
  • Significant experience in managing industrial sponsors’ relationships with broad-based black economic empowerment trust structures.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Understanding of corporate governance principles, including accounting and books and records.
  • Sound knowledge of corporate social investment and performance.
  • Proven experience in project management, including strong abilities in presenting ad communicating project-relation information.
  • Broad understanding of legal frameworks supporting the transformation agenda in South Africa.
  • Understanding of the local culture and protocols, and broader human rights agenda.
  • Proficiency in isiZulu preferred.
