Description Audubon’s WINGS internship program invites undergraduate and graduate students to help shape a healthy environment and vibrant future for birds – and all of us who share the planet with them. Audubon Dakota currently has an opportunity for you to expand your wings through our Conservation internship.

In this position, you will work closely with Audubon Dakota’s staff to conduct data collection at local restoration sites and sanctuaries, perform data input, and facilitate outreach and education programs to a wide audience from K-12 schools to college-age students. The Conservation WINGS Intern will facilitate with annual monitoring of vegetation and avian species at local restored sites, North Dakota sanctuaries, and partner ranches.

Through this position, you will not only gain a deeper understanding of natural ecosystems, but also improve skills in species identification, data entry and analysis, public speaking, presenting educational materials, and developing a relationship between Audubon and local entities. This position will also allow you to become familiar with the workings of a non-profit organization while building relationships with other conservation partners.

This part-time internship opportunity, up to 35 hours per week with flexible hours, is available May 2018 through August 2018 (flexible), and reports to Audubon Dakota’s Conservation Programs Manager.

Responsibilities: - Conduct avian and vegetation monitoring following Audubon Dakota’s protocols. - Assist Range Ecologists with vegetation community composition monitoring through the Conservation Ranching Program. - Contribute to the development of nature programming, birding tours, outreach, and public events. - Assist with implementation of local restoration projects. - Other administrative tasks may be asked as they arise. - Travel around and outside of Fargo, ND will be required - must have own reliable vehicle.

Qualifications - Enrollment in a biology, ecology, natural resources, or other relevant bachelor or graduate degree program. - Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. - Great Plains species identification skills. - Experience with data input and analysis. - Ability to lift 25 lbs and be able to work/hike in adverse field conditions. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Organizational skills and attention to detail are highly desired. - Proficient with Microsoft Office. - Flexible with tasks or the ability to multi-task when asked. - Enthusiastic and willing to take on tasks with a positive approach.
