Position Overview

The Design Research team works within in the Office of the CTO and is focused on discovering new, innovative experiences for designers. We design, test, and iteratively refine new user experience concepts by deeply understanding our users’ unique needs and behaviors. Our team helps customers to re-imagine the future of building design and construction by designing and deploying virtual construction agents.

The Design Research team is seeking a research scientist passionate about building the next generation of Autodesk products for architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry.  Using construction planning, scheduling, and execution data, our researcher will design a ‘virtual agent' that can help designers with encoding construction knowledge into their design, engineers with producing constructible engineering designs, and contractors with planning and executing construction projects.


  • Develop the next generation of Autodesk applications for AEC industry using novel deep RL algorithms
  • Perform applied research in related areas including machine learning, deep learning, NLP, data-driven simulation, and optimization
  • Collaborate with a team of user experience designers, engineers, research scientists, and interns
  • Contribute to writing research papers

Minimum Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in computer science, computer engineering, or any other relevant disciplines with a background in machine learning and deep reinforcement learning
  • Hands-on experience on machine learning and deep reinforcement learning, specialized in data-driven machine learning, predictive models, and NLP
  • Proficient in Python and deep learning frameworks including Tensorflow, Pytorch, and Caffe
  • Experience in quick prototyping and scientific research methods
  • Strong math and programming skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of architectural design
  • Knowledge of civil/structural engineering
  • Knowledge of construction management
  • Knowledge of existing AEC workflows
