  • Lead primary development in meat and seed snacks and act as conduit to rest of R&D organization to access additional capability and capacity as needed. 
  • Lead new and existing shelf stable product development initiatives for meat snacks.
  • Formulate products to achieve nutritional profile, ingredient statement, flavor profile, and product attributes of the target product.
  • Processes product recipe changes and maintain accurate records of change.
  • Organize and lead product cuttings to internally evaluate sensory attributes and propose formula adjustments. After cutting, submit report outlining team feedback and actionable next steps.
  • Develop finished product and manufacturing process specifications using SAP, Oracle, and other programs as needed.
  • Develops plan to collect analytical data to support NLEA Labeling requirements, and implements nutritional labeling claims or certification processes as needed on new or existing products.
  • Build and deliver against product development schedules in order to meet project timelines.
  • Conduct plant trials and new product start-ups independently.
  • Collaborate with cross functional team including processing, marketing, finance, packaging and brand design, procurement, and manufacturing.

Position Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Food Science, Meat Science, Animal Science or similar discipline.
  • Experience in meat science and/or meat snacks development is preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HAACP and USDA standards to ensure compliance with government regulations and standards
  • Knowledge of fermented, dried, cured meats is preferred with a thorough understanding and strong technical knowledge of meat testing and processing.
  • Experience in Product Development or related field at a food company required
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products.
  • Good understanding of food industry standards of quality and food safety, and FDA regulations.
  • Ability to independently manage project work.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate well and to effectively influence and interact with others to accomplish research goals.
  • Up to 60% travel including flying in US, possibly overseas.  Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible Conagra Brands representative.  While operating out of the Boulder office, the incumbent will be required to spend time as required with the R&D team in Omaha, the Conagra management team in Chicago and vendors and co-packers elsewhere as required.
