Brief Job Overview

USP is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Design Manager to join our dynamic Creative Services team, housed within the Global Communications department. This role is ideal for a strategic problem-solver who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about visual storytelling, brand consistency, and impactful design. You will work closely with in-house and freelance designers, other creative professionals, and communications managers to develop compelling visual content that supports USP’s mission and enhances our global presence.

The Senior Design Manager will be part of talented and passionate team responsible for driving USP’s brand identity, establishing brand guidelines, and producing creative content for a global organization. In this role, you will develop integrated visual campaigns across print and digital communications channels to as part of storytelling efforts that bring USP’s relevance and impact to life, which includes:

• Supporting the development, manufacture and distribution of quality medicines.
• Promoting medicines supply chain resilience.
• Supporting development of biologic therapies.
• Bolstering quality and consistency of dietary supplements and food ingredients.
• Removing barriers to innovation in science and technology.

The ideal candidate will have a natural eye for design and a passion for delivering dynamic ideas that connect with USP’s broad set of stakeholders.

As part of our mission to advance scientific rigor and public health standards, you will play a vital role in increasing global access to high-quality medicines through public standards and related programs. The Senior Design Manager, Creative Services has the following responsibilities:

• Collaborate with individuals in Global Communications and around the organization to plan and execute work that aligns with group priority areas and deliver high-quality work that is on time and on budget.
• Conceptualize campaign vision, advise on, and develop creative content for USP’s website, social media, and other communications channels.
• Develop creative that elevates our presence through innovative design, leveraging untapped methods like animation and motion graphics, and compelling visual storytelling.
• Manage production, approval and feedback, quality, delivery and dissemination for cross-organization use of design products.
• Help to establish a unified brand understanding, strengthen brand standards and develop templates adhering to the brand standards for the organization to use.
• Ensure team understands and adheres to current processes, look for opportunities for improvement, and propose and create processes and tools to support design operations.
• Understand design and industry trends, the needs of our internal stakeholders, and track campaign performance.
• Assist Senior Manager, Creative Services in the day-to-day needs and requests of a busy department, including ability to take and manage projects independently; review creative content created across the organization; assess needs of a job and report on needs for additional resources; assist in design, photography, and videography as needed.

Work Schedule and Location:

This is a part-time position, requiring approximately 20 hours per week. The schedule should be spread across at least four weekdays to support collaboration and project continuity. The role follows a hybrid work model, with a requirement to be onsite at USP’s Rockville, MD headquarters at least two days per week. Remote work is permitted for the remainder of the schedule, subject to team needs and supervisor approval.

Who is USP Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

• Possess a mix of artistic, marketing, brand, and communications expertise to the position, helping to communicate USP’s value to our stakeholders.
• Ten or more years of professional experience in design, digital, and print, overseeing large multi-channel campaigns.
• Expertise with design software: Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, working knowledge of Adobe Premiere and/or Premiere Rush. User knowledge of Canva and Microsoft products.
• Exceptional ability in typography, layout, and prototyping.
• Collaborator who can bring people together with desire to learn, discover, understand USP’s complex role, and help bring vision to group objectives.

Important Note: Candidates must submit a portfolio of relevant design work as part of the interview process to be considered further.

Additional Desired Preferences

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent years in industry) in graphic design.
• Experience as an art director.
• Experience in web development and social media.
• Solid knowledge of photography and video production and editing.
• Experience implementing or using a digital asset management system.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None, this is an individual contributor role.

Compensation

Base Salary Range (based on 20 hour work week): USD $62,000.00 – $78,750.00 annually.

Target Annual Bonus: % Varies based on level of role.

Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate’s skill set, experience, qualifications, equity, and other job-related reasons.
