Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor in Health and Well-being

The School of Counseling and Well-being at West Virginia University (WVU) is currently inviting applications for a Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor position in its Health and Well-Being program. We are seeking a highly qualified individual who will contribute to the land-grant mission of the institution by working with faculty, staff, students, and community partners in a dynamic and collaborative environment. The successful candidate will teach in-person and online courses in the Health and Well-being major. Primary courses of instruction include Foundations of Health Education, Core Concepts in Health Education, Program Design, Implementation, and Evaluation for Health Educators, Enhancing Individual and Community Well-being, and Health Coaching. The successful candidate will be expected to provide service to the school, college, university, and profession (including possible clinical placement and/or program coordination). 

This faculty position is housed in the newly established WVU College of Applied Human Sciences (CAHS), where academic excellence is not just a goal, but a shared passion among three distinctive schools — the School of Counseling and Well-Being, the School of Education, and the School of Sport Sciences. This position appointment is for the Morgantown campus beginning August 2024. This faculty position in CAHS is full-time, non-tenure track; it does not include a research requirement.

This 9-month position will begin on August 16, 2024. Summer teaching opportunities may be available based on course demand.

Qualifications

  • An earned doctoral degree in health education or a closely related area OR a master’s degree in health education or a closely related area and extensive industry experience (at least three years) in health and wellness settings.
  • Demonstrated proof of creative and impactful teaching with undergraduate learners, including proficiency in online instructional formats.
  • Proven track record in driving innovation, showcasing resourcefulness, and consistently adopting a solutions-oriented approach to overcome challenges effectively.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, coupled with strong interpersonal and collaborative problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of professional certifications related to health and wellness, including Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) or Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
  • Experience working with special populations in clinical or medical contexts.
