Internship Program Overview

BrainPOP’s Summer 2024 Internship Program is an excellent opportunity for college students to learn about the EdTech space from an industry leader and brand beloved by teachers and students. BrainPOP’s interns will participate in business relevant projects, collaborate with teams and leaders in the organization, and take part in our unique culture.

We are a hybrid workplace, and interns will work in the BrainPOP NYC office on Wednesdays during the course of the internship. Each Wednesday we’ll provide lunch, opportunities to interact onsite with teams, and host special programming and events throughout the experience.

Details

  • Paid Internships for college students
  • 8 weeks: June 10, 2024 to August 2, 2024
  • 35 hours per week: Monday through Friday from 9:30 am - 5pm (30 minutes lunch)
  • Hybrid schedule: Wednesdays in-person at the BrainPOP Office in NYC, with the option to work remotely on other days
  • Lunch provided every Wednesday in the BrainPOP Office
  • Special events and learning oriented programming

About The Role

BrainPOP has been creating movies and features for more than 20 years. Keeping our content up-to-date is a never-ending and essential process! Hundreds of thousands of students watch our movies daily, read the accompanying articles, and take our quizzes.

As the Editorial Intern, you will work with the Editorial and Learning Design teams to keep our content up-to-date and accessible so every student gets the best possible information and experience. 

The ideal candidate is an undergraduate student interested in education, creative writing, or journalism. The intern will have the opportunity to develop their skills by working with editors and writers on a wide range of projects. 

In this role, you will 

  • Review content—including movies, Related Readings, quizzes, and activities—for outdated information. Perform necessary research and suggest updates/edits. 
  • Draft descriptions for new and redo topics, to be edited by the scripts team.
  • Assist the Production Coordinator in organizing the team's workflow management system.
  • Solicit and receive guidance and feedback across various editorial functions, positions, and departments.
  • Brainstorm and pitch ideas for new content.
  • Provide research and fact-checking assistance to the Editorial team.
  • Assist in creating robust transcripts for new and redo movies
  • Update robust transcripts for existing movies to reflect current guidelines

You Are

  • An undergraduate student 
  • Passionate about education 
  • Excited to learn about a vast range of subjects
  • An excellent writer with an eye for detail
  • A self-starter with great instincts and sound judgment; able to implement updates with guidance
  • Comfortable writing about technical scientific topics
  • Able to provide writing samples

On Your Resume

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree; rising sophomore, junior or senior
  • Some editorial experience (at a school publication, prior internship or job, etc.)
  • College coursework in a scientific field preferred

Location

The BrainPOP team operates in a hybrid work environment: Each role has remote flexibility and an in-person component at our New York headquarters or other meeting locations. Based on the requirements of a specific role, we may prioritize hiring within a commutable distance of our New York headquarters or in another region relevant to that role.

We take a geo-neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location. We have competitive pay bands for all other countries based on market standards. Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including experience level, skill set, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. Based on these factors, we expect most of the candidates offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description, as posted. If so, the updated salary range will be communicated to you as a candidate.
