The opportunity:
Reporting to the Vice President of Workforce Development the Job Developer will be part of an outstanding organization. In this role you will have the chance to create meaningful impact while working with a dedicated and collaborative team.
Responsibilities:
- Equitable Employer Engagement: Proactively engage with employers to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in their hiring and management practices within the clean energy sector. Advocate for the recruitment and retention of individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.
- Build and maintain connections with industry partners to stay updated on job needs and new technologies.
- Build pathways to clean energy careers for individuals from various backgrounds by traveling up to 50% of the time to engage with employers, attend community events, and connect with diverse local communities.
- Network Development: Maintain and expand a national employer network database. Establish guidelines for affiliates to build their own local employer networks.
- Partnership Management: Act as the primary contact for national corporate and manufacturer partnerships for workforce development. Collaborate with the corporate philanthropy team to define workforce development deliverables that align with GRID’s mission.
- Employer Education: Inform and connect employers to opportunities such as federal and state subsidized employment programs and incentive-based hiring initiatives.
- Work-Based Learning Support: Develop an ecosystem of employer partners for mentorship, panels, mock interviews, resume reviews, job shadowing, recruitment events, and job placement.
- Program Refinements: Contribute to program refinements to meet employer needs and expectations.
- Culturally Proficient Support: Collaborate with affiliates to provide culturally proficient support to program participants throughout their job search and career advancement journey.
- Job Placement Support: Build a centralized training and resource hub for workforce development staff to address job search needs and barriers to employment such as transportation, childcare, or housing insecurity.
- Feedback Coordination: Conduct and analyze follow-up surveys with program graduates and employers to gather feedback on job performance and training relevance. Use insights to inform continuous program improvement.
- Communication Channels: Work with our communications team to establish regular communication channels with employers via newsletters, social media, and other methods.
- Research and Reporting: Conduct research to identify barriers to employment faced by underrepresented groups. Use findings to advise program strategies and interventions.
- Mentorship: Provide mentorship for trainee recruiting, info sessions, pre-program interviews, program intake, and program case management for training partners and programs.
- Wrap-Around Services: Develop a network of wrap-around services to assist trainees with specific needs such as childcare, transportation, housing support, and emotional support.
- Employer Recruitment: Develop relationships for national and regional job fairs.
What you offer:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in workforce development, with a demonstrated dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Successfully built and maintained strategic relationships with internal and external collaborators while advancing equity-focused initiatives.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a genuine ability to connect with people from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Understanding of the outstanding work readiness and employment needs of marginalized populations.
- Willingness to travel as needed and engage with communities across diverse geographic and cultural contexts.
- Familiarity with equity-centered workforce development practices, policies, and frameworks, such as racial equity impact assessments and inclusive hiring strategies.
- Proficient in conducting research with an equity lens and applying data to achieve equitable outcomes.
- Self-motivated, empathetic, and able to work collaboratively as part of a diverse, equity-centered team.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of, and sensitivity to the needs of diverse groups of individuals.
- Deep understanding of the solar & renewable energy industry and experience connecting job seekers to multiple career paths in related industries including entrepreneurship opportunities.
- Comfort working in the digital space and meeting by phone, video conferencing, and in-person.
- Solid proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Salesforce.
- Knowledge of the basics of renewable energy, solar energy, and environmental justice.
It would be great if you also had...
- Degree or equivalent experience in a related field, with a focus on social justice, equity, or community development.
- Direct experience working in clean energy or related sectors with a specific focus on equity and inclusion.
- Familiarity with equity-centered workforce development practices, policies, and frameworks.
- Knowledge of systemic barriers faced by marginalized communities in accessing and advancing in careers that carry a family-sustaining wage.
- Hired CA candidates must be able to pass a screening for drugs that are illegal in the state of California, including: amphetamine, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and PCP.
Where you will sit & the places you may go…
This position may require 10%-25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects. Availability to work nights and weekends may be required.
GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary pay commensurate with experience within the pay band ($70k-$85k annually), plus the benefits listed below.
