The Opportunity

You will be responsible for supporting the development and evaluation of genetic approaches for the identification of disease and drug-associated biomarkers to support the development of novel protein-based therapeutics, such as recombinant antibodies and other protein mediators that target and modulate the function of specific cell types. You will be involved in the development and analysis of key genetic and biological assays (in vitro or ex vivo) to support identification of biomarkers and development of biomarker assays, mechanism of action studies, and evaluation of therapeutic candidates in human clinical samples.

This role will have strong ties with the Bioinformatics and Statistics teams to direct and support target validation using genomic, informatics and cell biology approaches.

Key Responsibilities include;

  • Support the development of strategies for the assessment of genetic/epigenetic variants associated with disease/indications and/or therapeutic candidate gene targets
  • Support the performance of in vitro screening strategies including transcriptomic and proteomic analysis of blood and tissue to identify potential biomarkers of disease/indications and drug-responses
  • Participate in the development, formulation and evaluation of therapeutic candidates
  • Support development and performance of protein-based assays (e.g. flow cytometry, ELISA,) to evaluate effector functions (cytokine production, cell death, cell proliferation, cell signalling) of various leukocytes as informed by genetic and biomarker discovery
  • Identify and implement new assay platforms to be used in in vitro and in vivo evaluation of therapeutic candidates
  • Work with both primate and human cell populations in-vitro to evaluate efficacy of therapeutic candidates
  • Present scientific data at Divisional, Project Team and Departmental level as well as externally

To be successful you require

  • PhD in relevant discipline (genetics, statistical genetics, or human cell biology)
  • At least 3 years Postdoctoral experience & excellent track record
  • Experience and understanding of Genetic and Immunology Research
  • Experience with molecular biology and DNA/RNA handling
  • Experience in immunological techniques
  • Experience in cell culture and aseptic technique
  • Ability to critically analyse and summarize data from the literature and apply findings to current projects
  • Experience in use of programs such as PLINK, Haploview,  R, IPA
  • Experience and knowledge in the use of data from biobanks

You will have excellent communication skills and be able to grasp complex problems and effectively identify solutions. Experience working within a research or biotechnology environment would be a significant advantage.
