As part of our Growth Strategy at APM Terminals, we are investing in greenfield projects to expand our existing footprint and working with our existing brownfield sites to ensure best-in-class terminals across the globe. Our ability to design and build a terminal, establish an operational organization and secure commercial business is pivotal to achieving these ambitions.

We are looking for a Contracting Strategy and Execution Lead This role will operate both “on the system”—by building the central contract strategy and execution practice—and “in the system”—by working across projects. As a key pillar of the Project Execution / Business Integration Management function, the Lead will ensure consistent application of processes and standards throughout planning and delivery. The role also provides guidance and support to Contract Managers and Project Engineers while minimizing contract risk and business exposure.

Location: The Hague, Netherlands ( Short-term travel as needed to support project and APMT Project Execution requirements)

Key Responsibilities:

Contract Strategy and Execution Practice

Build project contract management capability across the Project Execution/BIM function—from strategy and planning to execution and closure—for various project archetypes.

Ensure a fit-for-purpose Contracting Methodology is included in the Project Management Framework, with supporting tools and guidance.

Ensure best-in-class contract management standards and processes are effectively applied across the project lifecycle.

Collaborate with APMT’s Centers of Excellence on capability building (e.g., Community of Practice) for Project Contract Managers and Engineers.

Establish contract KPIs/metrics and an evaluation approach to assess performance across the project portfolio.

Maintain a structured, accessible Contract Standards and learning repository for all APMT projects.

Interface Management

Establish clear Ways of Working with key internal functions such as Procurement and Legal.

Liaise, coordinate, and report to Project Management, stakeholders, and external auditors as required.

Contracting Expertise and Assurance

Provide guidance on Development, Feasibility, Procurement, Commercial, Contractual, Claims & Dispute matters.

Advise on governance structures to optimize contract performance and value for money.

Oversee projects and support Contract Managers/Engineers in ensuring compliance with standards, including:

o Quality, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

o Fulfilment of all project contract obligations (Concession, Contractor, Consultants, Suppliers).

o Proper documentation and contract record maintenance.

o Valid warranties, bonds, guarantees, insurances, and claim management.

o Risk identification and mitigation review.

Claims and Dispute Management

Work with legal experts to manage all claims, offering advice, action, and recommendations to reach optimal settlements, including DAB and Arbitration.

We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Law or a related field (Level 8 or above).
  • Solid Work Experience in contract management.
  • Strong understanding of project management estimating, HSE compliance and supplier relations.
  • Experience developing and working with project contracting standards and delivering project contracting assurance services.
  • Experience in developing high quality reports and performance insights for management.
  • Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and Project Management Systems.
  • Project management qualifications (PMI, Prince2, APMPMQ or equivalent) desirable.
  • Experience on major construction projects is a strong advantage.
