Strategic Sourcing Systems (OSS) at Amazon is seeking a Data Engineer to join our team to build data solution that transform large volumes of operational data into actionable insights at petabyte scale. As a Data Engineer, you'll design systems processing vast amounts of data from across Amazon Supply chain and be an integral part of enhancing Inbound efficiency and accurate predictions of our supply chain sourcing operations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Software development, Product, Business Intelligence and Science to support development of critical applications.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and automate deployment of our distributed system for collecting and processing log events from multiple sources
  • Manage Petabyte scale Database for the organization
  • Design data schema and operate internal data warehouses and SQL/NoSQL database systems
  • Own the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards to drive key business decisions
  • Monitor and troubleshoot operational or data issues in the data pipelines
  • Drive architectural plans and implementation for future data storage, reporting, and analytic solutions
  • Work collaboratively with business analysts, data scientists, and other internal partners to identify opportunities/problems
  • Provide assistance to the team with troubleshooting, researching the root cause, and thoroughly resolving defects in the event of a problem

We are responsible for developing and implementing cutting-edge algorithmic solutions and data platforms that drive Amazon's sourcing decisions worldwide. Our mission is to optimize the entire procurement process, from vendor selection to inventory placement, ensuring the most efficient and cost-effective supply chain operations. We tackle complex challenges that directly impact Amazon's bottom line and customer satisfaction by leveraging advanced analytics, machine learning, and big data technologies to make data-driven decisions that optimize costs, improve delivery times, and enhance product availability across millions of items.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1+ years of data engineering experience
  • 2+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative/technical field such as computer science, engineering, statistics
  • Knowledge of distributed systems as it pertains to data storage and computing
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
  • Experience with one or more query language (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL, DDL, MDX, HiveQL, SparkSQL, Scala)
  • Experience with one or more scripting language (e.g., Python, KornShell)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR
  • Experience with any ETL tool like, Informatica, ODI, SSIS, BODI, Datastage, etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $91,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
