Quality Auditor (2nd Shift)

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

The Quality Auditor is responsible for ensuring that all WIP and manufactured products meet the applicable requirements and specifications stated on relevant documentation like Engineering Drawings, SOPs, Audit Plans, Functional Test Procedures, Work Instructions, Deviations, Manufacturing and Quality Standards. This individual will be responsible for visual and functional conformance of the product being manufactured at the cell, as well as ensuring that the required documentation and packaging specifications are satisfied.

This individual will play an important role in auditing and qualifying WIP and manufactured products through auditing, First Article Inspections (Product and Process), and identifying non-conforming product to prevent scrap, production delays, customer dissatisfaction and issues with product in the field.

As a Quality Auditor, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Perform audits at the manufacturing cell to look at the manufacturing process, manufactured product (Sub-Component and Final Assemblies), training logs, accuracy of operations sheets, work instructions, age sensitive materials etc.
  • Use databases and ERP systems to document material transfers in and out of the Quality Warehouses.
  • Use various Hand Gauges, CMM, Gage blocks Micro-View, profilometers, gage pins etc to perform measurement and inspection activities.
  • Make use of Engineering Drawings, SOPs, Audit Plans, Functional Test Procedures, Work Instructions, Deviations, Manufacturing and Quality Standards to effectively conduct Product and Process auditing activities.
  • Verify revision level of the parts being received, determine if there is a current FAI to that revision and retrieve the FAI for that revision and check for ACTIVE Quality Alerts.
  • Use CMM and hand tools to perform full layout of the products for PPAPs and First Article Inspections.
  • Draft and Submit First Article Inspection Reports for manufactured product to be reviewed by the Sustaining Engineering and Quality Engineering Team.
  • Facilitate the First Article Inspection Efforts for NPI and other projects.
  • Identify and Quarantine non-conforming product at the manufacturing cell and as per the site established SOP.
  • Disposition non-conforming products, create NCIs and issue SCARs to suppliers.
  • Contact Suppliers and conduct containment operations. Arrange sorting activities with the supplier as needed.
  • Actively Utilize Problem Solving Tools to help identify Root Cause. Participate in Problem Solving initiatives and provide data to the team.
  • Communicate supplier quality issues to SQEs and management effectively.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers to create and document Quality Alerts and communicate to the necessary personnel.
  • Maintain quality alert log, track status and update quality alerts as necessary.
  • Perform MSA and Capability Studies.
  • Create, maintain and update PFMEAs and Control Plans. Participate in PFMEA and control plan team reviews.
  • Train others in reading control plans and apply to a manufacturing cell and audit.
  • Construct multiple level 3 PPAP's within a short period of time and obtain customer approval. Lead efforts to obtain all required documentation and process studies from suppliers/manufacturers for PPAPs.
  • Perform Receiving Inspection and First Article Inspection on incoming product as needed to assist the Quality Inspectors

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Willing to work 2nd shift with hours being M-Th 3:30pm to 2am, some overtime on Fri and/or Sat as needed.
  • One (1) year of experience understanding complex assembly and component prints, including all GD&T, Views, and Notes.
  • One (1) year of experience processing customer returns/RMAs and issuing/tracing SCARS is necessary.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Understanding of all measurements tools and ability to use and disseminate tools needed to inspect the product, can jig or fixture product for precise measurement required.
  • Experience communicating with suppliers, engineers and management about Quality Issues required.
  • Must be proficient in the use of all Hand Gages and other measurement equipment in the receiving area.
  • Must be able train other personnel on use of gaging, blue print reading, GD&T and process/product auditing.
  • Must be able to run CMM programs and be able to perform PM.
  • Must understand and be proficient in ISO9001 standard with experience conducting effective audits. Ability to create auditing sheets, turtle diagrams required, as is following instructions and understanding and production process flows.
  • Must have above average computer skills and basic Math skills.
  • Able to collect, compile and Interpret Data for analysis through charts and plots.
  • Strong Written and Oral Communication Skills.

The starting rate of pay for this position is $22.01 per hour. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
