Manager, Energy & Utilities, Development & Investment Consultant

West Monroe Partners

Are you ready to make an impact?

Position Overview:

West Monroe is seeking talented and driven professionals with experience in energy project development and market strategy to join our growing Energy & Utilities practice. You will help clients shape the future of the energy industry in the U.S. — working at the intersection of clean energy, infrastructure modernization, investment advisory, and regulatory strategy.

This role supports both regulated utilities and unregulated developers as they navigate strategic planning, asset development, and implementation challenges. You will also contribute to West Monroe’s transaction advisory services, which support more than 500 transactions annually across energy infrastructure, renewables, and emerging technologies. The ideal candidate will bring both commercial insights and technical depth to help clients evaluate opportunities, mitigate risks, and unlock value.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with clients to assess market opportunities and develop strategies for energy infrastructure investments and project development.
  • Provide commercial and technical insights to support transaction due diligence, feasibility analysis, and investment decision-making.
  • Support strategy and implementation for both regulated utilities (e.g., grid modernization, rate innovation) and unregulated developers (e.g., project siting, interconnection, financing).
  • Conduct financial modeling, market analysis, and regulatory risk assessments to inform infrastructure investments and policy positioning.
  • Advise on development and implementation of generation, transmission, distribution, and clean energy projects (including DERs and storage).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver tailored, actionable strategies that meet clients’ operational and investment goals.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, market dynamics, and technology advancements, bringing thought leadership to client engagements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, business, or a related field; advanced degree or direct project finance/development experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in energy project development, market analysis, or infrastructure investment.
  • Experience working with or advising regulated utilities and/or independent power producers (IPPs).
  • Familiarity with U.S. energy markets (e.g., ISO/RTO dynamics), regulatory frameworks, and project finance structures.
  • Strong analytical skills, including financial modeling, economic forecasting, and scenario planning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to translate complexity into actionable insights.
  • Passion for advancing clean energy, infrastructure innovation, and sustainable outcomes through strategic advisory and execution support.
