Role Summary

The Asset Servicing Control & Resiliency team plays an important role in setting the control & resiliency strategy to protect the foundational strength of the operational risk and resiliency environment, in support of the business unit strategy. The operating model has global alignment and is centrally managed.

As a Senior Consultant, you are responsible for working within the Control team to actively execute control best practices and advise on risk mitigations and control enhancements. You will support the Control Manager in the execution of the Global Control strategy in the region and for your practice area. Regular activities to be undertaken by the senior consultant include in-depth analysis of incidents to identify key trends and solutions to prevent future reoccurrence, risk-based control reviews, effective test execution, participation in the team business continuity plan. You will also support the Resiliency strategy locally and work with the Global Asset Servicing Resiliency Office.

What you will do

  • Participate with control project deliverables, as assigned, to implement enhanced controls and operational effectiveness enhancements.
  • Advise and assist Business Units on implementing the control framework and ensure adherence to maintaining the control processes in accordance with the highest standards and best practices.
  • Assist key Control programs such as the RCSA, Audit Remediation, ASL, ATP Standards etc. Including alignment of the methodology, the execution of the programs, and to ensure the implementation and tracking of agreed actions.
  • Conduct periodic review of specific policies and ensure procedures are in place and follow organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate incidents and operational losses and performs thorough analysis to identify trends and root cause. Prepares recommendations for process and control enhancements in alignment with the control manager.
  • Contribute to the periodic risk reviews of, operational processes, procedures, and client specific servicing deliverables. Ensure risk review results are documented and reviewed with the control manager and the global control executive overseeing the practice. Recommend control enhancements for high-risk processes.
  • Support manager with planning and execution of the thematic reviews required to provide assurance to business leadership of control effectiveness surrounding internal processes, procedures, and client specific servicing deliverables.
  • Support the risk-based control test plan to identify excessive risk and/or control issues at an early stage. Report process test findings to control management, (via the agreed Control Testing report template).
  • Support the Global incident management process, in partnership with the Global Asset Servicing Resiliency Office and where necessary provide local support. This includes monitoring and reporting on business impacts from incidents and applying lessons-learned in the region
  • Assist with operational and/or corporate risk initiatives where directed.
  • Escalate risk and control related matters to the practice control manager.
  • Foster and promote Northern Trust’s commitment to a strong risk management culture by developing a control mindset within the business.

About You

You will be professional with extensive business experience, multi-disciplinary functional experience with a focus on proactive activities within the Global Control group. You will have knowledge of the firm and industry including:

  • Demonstrated experience of 5 or more years in operational risk and/or compliance in the financial services sector.
  • Experience in asset servicing, and/or banking with a solid understanding of custody and fund services products, markets, and client base
  • Ability to systematically assess & challenge existing processes in a structured way; this is demonstrated by knowledge of risk management techniques & awareness of control activities.
  • Works to build consensus with the ability to influence at various levels
  • Stakeholder management, with proven ability to work with virtual teams to successful outcomes
  • Strong communications skills with the ability to explain difficult or sensitive information
  • Attention to detail and ability to drive to execution
