DESCRIPTION

Would you like to drive the technology behind some of the most innovative systems on the planet?

AWS Hardware Engineering builds the servers and devices used everywhere in AWS, from EC2 to S3 to EBS and beyond. Consequently, we own some of the most frequently deployed servers, devices, and firmware anywhere in the world. Optimizing quality, performance, and cost is a massive challenge, and we love it! We are looking for a customer-obsessed, team-driven, senior technology leader to take our engineering of server hardware to the next level of reliability, cost, and performance. Is that you? How can you tell? You hunger to guide the roadmap of the server hardware industry at large. You find that solving problems in server architecture, manufacturing quality, telemetry/monitoring, and other such topics is extremely fascinating, maybe even addictive. Your teammates say things like, “every time we speak, I learn something new that grows me as an engineer.” Your passion for engineering best practices is second-to-none. Finally, you love to give customers what they want: high quality, high performance, low cost, always-on devices and servers.

As a Principal Engineer at Amazon, you’ll be a technical leader. You’ll help establish technical standards and drive Amazon’s overall technical architecture and engineering practices. You’ll work on Amazon’s hardest problems, building high quality, architecturally sound systems that are aligned with our business needs. Amazon Principal Engineers are pragmatic visionaries who can translate business needs into workable technology solutions. Your expertise is deep and broad; you’re hands-on, producing both detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs.

As a member of the Hardware Engineering team you will own the overall power subsystem for our next generation of severs from the main input all the way to the silicon. You will be responsible for setting the technical direction for future power architectures and delivering results through our team of power engineers, vendors, and silicon suppliers. You will have demonstrated results in the power delivery for entire servers. You will have a deep understanding of voltage regulators (VRs), server level power distribution, DC-DC conversion, AC-DC conversion, protection, telemetry/monitoring, and operations. You will interact with an interdisciplinary team of engineers to design, develop, validate, and launch at large scale power components used in our servers. You’ll provide leadership for how power is delivered in our servers in a continuous effort to deliver and improve a world-class customer experience. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position. You will work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You have high standards for yourself and everyone you work with. You will be constantly looking for ways to improve performance, quality, and cost. At AWS we are changing an industry and want individuals who are ready for a challenge to reach beyond what is possible today.
