Airbus UpNext Spain has the ambition to deliver a disruptive and innovative project to contribute to the evaluation of an innovative more electric architecture with the aim to provide aircraft non propulsive energy (NPE).

Test Bench Mechanical Design Engineer position is within the Airbus UpNext subsidiary in Spain (Getafe).

This job comes with a limited contract linked to the deliverable of the demonstrator - end of December 2027.

Starting date - ASAP.

Mission

The demonstrator will integrate complex systems including electrical energy storage, electrical power generation, distribution and conversion, fuel storage and distribution, pneumatic systems, thermal management systems and control and monitoring systems within a ground test facility. Those systems will include novel technologies for aviation, and will be integrated in a new system architecture with new operational constraints.

The Test Support System controls and monitors the test facilities ensuring safe and efficient test bench operations. It serves as an intermediary between the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and the System under Test (SuT), translating high-level commands into actionable instructions. It also acquires data from lab test instrumentation for both real-time monitoring and post-test analysis.

The role of the Test Engineer will be to lead the design and development of the Test Support System and set up the operations methodology of the test bench, i.e. design, commissioning and operation of the test support systems, implementation of roles and responsibilities and assurance of safety measurements of the to secure the operation in the safest conditions.

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

✔ Co-Design, develop, integrate and commission of test bench critical monitoring, HMI and safety measurements.

✔ Support of test support system supplier(s) during its specification, design, conception, built and verification activities

✔ Implementation of data storage and analysis tools.

✔ Implement the training plan for the operational team of the test bench based on the roles and responsibilities of the project.

✔ Main responsible for the correct assurance of the safety measurements and protocols.

✔ Plan and coordinate the commissioning plan of the test bench.

✔ Once the test bench is ready, you will be responsible for the daily test plan coordination and conductor of the tests.

✔ Support to test bench maintenance and configuration management.

The responsibilities and the technical scope of the job might evolve according to the agile working environment of the project, so being flexible is important.

What you bring:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in testing activities.
  • Expert in test bench operations.
  • Benches HMI definition reference.
  • Experience in “Veristand” and/or similar platforms.
  • “Safety first” experienced mindset.
  • Proven hands-on and solution oriented attitude.
  • Experience in operation of high voltage batteries.
  • Proven background on turbomachinery, Internal Combustion Engines.
  • Team-Player mindset.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
