The Design System vision at eBay is to create the systems, tools, and methods to holistically evolve eBay into a more modern and effortless experience that customers will love.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Program Manager to support the Design Systems team, bridging Design Systems to the Design Org and Core Engineering, in alignment with Design Systems Lead, System of Systems Stakeholders and Executive Producer, to partner across the organizations, ensuring product design consistency, prioritize development efforts and scale processes.

In partnership with Design Systems, Foundations & Product Leads, the Senior Program Manager will manage the roadmap, track cross-platform progress along the component lifecycle, and continue to evolve the product based on feedback and technology advances, work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment with architecture, engineering, and design to ensure successful delivery.

What you will accomplish:

  • Manage priorities and backlog of the Design System repository across web, Figma, component and pattern libraries
  • Track progress, improve workflows, manage a backlog and support prioritization
  • Own the component/pattern lifecycle process for Design, Platforms and A11y; facilitate and track each phase, step and successful outcome
    • Follow & document component lifecycle steps
    • Ensure Design System Ready Checklist has been completed for Design Ready handoffs
  • Work with the Design Systems team to provide guidelines & documentation System users
  • Manage communications & updates for System users in partnership with Exec Producer and Head of Design Systems.
  • Manage platform requirements, plan and manage interdependencies, in alignment with Design and Platform leads.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, trace & report progress, resolve conflicts, ensure quality and reporting on status.
  • Future: Report out on key performance metrics, goals and achievements to define success for the platform, including adoption rate as the primary metric

Who You Are:

Experience with atomic design systems on enterprise level:

  • Understanding Design, Product and Development perspectives of a design system
  • Knowledge of tools, process and intuition for foundational design systems

  • Experience working with design systems to efficiently scale out a visual identity without disempowering teams iterating on the experience.

  • Understand complex systems, identify user needs, and support decision-making.
  • Solve interdisciplinary problems by integrating diverse perspectives.

Platform familiarity:

  • Navigate across platforms and understand their relative merits and constraints.
  • Experienced with scalable, atomic design principles.
  • Work efficiently with design systems to maintain visual identity while allowing for iteration.

Transparency & communication:

  • Support clear communication directly and async to engineers, designers, and partners.
  • Consideration of design & developer experience in driving impact and success.

Generative human person:

  • Create communications, update processes, codify decision making, improve tracking.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years of product design project management or design systems product management experience
  • Experience with design systems at enterprise level companies
  • Strong understanding of atomic design principles
  • Excellent attention-to-detail
  • Proficiency in Figma, Google suite, Jira, Github
  • Familiarity with components, patterns, foundations

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$101,200 - $174,100

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
