Job Description

The IFF Nutrition & Biosciences plant located in Madison, Wisconsin, USA manufactures a variety of food products and ingredients used in everyday food items, many of them found in local grocery stores including: starter cultures used in the production of cheese, yogurt, buttermilk, sour cream; probiotic cultures used for their health promoting effects on the digestive system of humans and animals; and other food ingredients such as food antioxidants for food preservation and enzymes used in cheese manufacturing. 

We are looking for an Intern to join our Process R&D Probiotics, Cultures, Food Protection Team! The candidate selected will provide support for Process R&D activities. There will be an emphasis on basic lab functions, equipment set-up, and data/documentation creation. The Process R&D internship includes approximately 6 months of employment working up to 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions of this position include (but are not limited to):

  • Support basic lab functions including washing glassware, preparing media, setting up equipment, running assays, and routine intermediate testing.
  • Support Probiotic and Dairy development projects impacting cell yield, stability, quality, or activity for selected microbial strains
  • Update and maintain data files
  • Develop methods and SOPs for identified equipment
  • Create/update lab documentation
  • Execute product testing and documentation of results

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university
  • Working towards an associates or bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
  • Preferred Majors: Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering

  • Ability to independently design, carry-out, and report the results of scientific experiments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Accomplished computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work in cross-functional teams to deliver concrete project deliverables in a timely manner
