Sinclair Broadcast Group has flagged the Executive Producer of Digital News job as unavailable. Let’s keep looking.

POLITICO is seeking a Digital Producer who is passionate about journalism and looking to kick-start a career in a newsroom. The ideal candidate will have solid news judgment and be able to navigate a professional newsroom with good humor and grace, regardless of ever-changing circumstances. You tackle any challenges that arise and enjoy solving problems all while being detail oriented. You’re able to multitask without losing focus and prioritize multiple projects while juggling several competing deadlines. You are eager, but realistic, about taking on more projects without sacrificing quality. Your written and verbal communication skills make you an approachable go-to for relaying messages to senior colleagues inside and outside the newsroom.

What You'll Do:

  • Work closely with our reporters and editors to copyedit, fact-check and publish POLITICO’s content, adhering to Associated Press and in-house copyediting standards
  • Work under tight deadlines to transform a story from a text file to a journalistic work of art, outfitting it with powerful photos, sharp sidebars and the latest videos
  • Beat out the competition by breaking news via alerts and social media, and push stories to the top of search results with smart SEO
  • File and tag stories in the content management system (CMS) while troubleshooting any snags and glitches that arise
  • Communicate with reporters and editors onsite and offsite, while maintaining a calm demeanor in sometimes hectic news cycles
  • Understand and navigate the team’s many workflows and processes, providing feedback on how to improve them when necessary
  • Serve as the last line of defense before publishing our work
  • Note that during your first several months you will be working later hours, from about 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. ET, Monday through Friday

What You'll Need:

  • Passion for digital media and journalism
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment, ideally an internet publication or newsroom
  • Working knowledge of AP Style
  • Exposure to content management systems (CMS) and HTML is a plus
  • Working knowledge of national and congressional politics and policy issues is extremely helpful, with a desire to continue to learn
  • Availability to work flexible hours to meet publishing needs is a must — POLITICO wins not only the morning but the nights and weekends, too

Team Culture

The Production team is one of the largest in the newsroom and is dynamic and fast-paced. You will have the opportunity to work on both short and long-term projects and collaborate with your direct team members and the broader newsroom.
