Baylor University seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level within the Department of Geosciences, effective Fall 2026. We invite applicants who demonstrate a commitment and potential to develop an outstanding, externally funded research program in the area of Critical Minerals and Materials. We are particularly interested in candidates with a clearly established connection between their geosciences research program and emerging questions in mineral/material science. The specific research field may include the application of field- and lab-based research in areas including, but not limited to, critical mineral exploration, mobilization, concentration, and recovery or related areas at the interface of geoscience, sustainability, energy, and materials science. Top applicants will also enthusiastically commit to the teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Teaching opportunities may include core undergraduate classes including mineralogy, petrology, and/or structural geology and graduate classes in the candidate’s area of expertise such as mineral resources, economic geology, energy sustainability, geochemistry, rock mechanics, or spectroscopy/crystallography.

All candidates must possess an earned doctorate in Geosciences or a related field by the time of appointment. Post-doctoral experience is preferred, as well as a sustained record of research accomplishment and the demonstrated potential to generate external funding. Mid-career candidates with a strong record of scholarly achievement and a record of significant external funding may be considered at the Associate Professor level. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain an externally funded program of research and contribute to our doctoral program (https://geosciences.artsandsciences.baylor.edu/graduate-studies). We prefer candidates who can demonstrate experience in one or more of the following: mentoring of graduate and/or undergraduate students; teaching, including development and delivery of instructional materials; engagement with programs directed toward first-generation students; active involvement in scientific outreach; service to the scientific community; and supervision of graduate and/or undergraduate research.
