Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

$157,000.00 - $259,200.00

What Is the Opportunity?

As the AVP, External Data Evaluation and Investment Lead, you are responsible for establishing and leading the BI External Data team, leveraging extensive knowledge of vendor products and strong analytical skills to support all BI functional areas. The role will drive the overarching BI external data evaluation and investment while collaborating with enterprise external data teams to establish and maintain best practices and a comprehensive discipline for external data evaluation and use cases. The successful candidate will lead a team of seven or more employees.

What Will You Do?

  • Lead and manage comprehensive external data projects, from product exploration to acquisition.
  • Oversee key vendor relationships and facilitate product exploration and communication coordination.
  • Maintain an inventory of BI vendor products and applications, and lead efforts to continuously improve the Use Case governance process and efficiencies.
  • Triage and monitor BI external data spending and utilization.
  • Guide the team in developing best practices for external data evaluation, post monitoring and conduct analytical peer reviews, especially of vendor-provided analyses.
  • Collaborate with external data production enablement teams to influence operational strategy to ensure optimal performance and value
  • Assess value propositions and provide feedback to business partners to inform direction.
  • Understand external business drivers and best practices and implement them into the organization as appropriate.
  • Collaborate across business lines to understand goals and identify strategies to achieve goals.
  • Foster and maintain partnerships with internal and external organizations to orchestrate the most effective methods of value delivery.
  • Influence senior management over the need to allocate time for data stewardship.
  • Execute on the program delivery aligned with the overall business strategy.
  • Provide guidance and coaching for team members; guide your team to advance their subject matter expertise and to identify future leaders to meet Travelers’ business objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What is a Must Have?

  • Bachelor’s degree or seven years of relevant data and analytics, and/or data management experience.
