Tactical Space Systems Division (TSSD) is looking for a Mission Operations Technical Deputy to assist with leading a geographically distributed operations team that supports the preparation and execution of high-tempo on-orbit spacecraft activities, including Launch and Early Orbit Operations, specialized test activities, and long-term sustainment operations. The Mission Operations Technical Deputy is responsible for providing technical and operational support to the Mission Operations Lead in executing day-to-day program and operations. This position has the responsibility of helping to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team and guiding program activities related to design, development, testing, and delivery of technical requirements as they relate to contractual cost, schedule, and performance commitments.

In this role, the Mission Operations Technical Deputy will be responsible for performing the following activities:

  • Assist the Mission Operations Lead in managing the team, providing guidance, and ensuring that team members execute their tasks effectively.
  • Drive multiple technical teams on a weekly cadence, supporting program AGILE software development through quarterly Prioritization Increments (PI) planning events with a strong emphasis on downstream impacts on operational sustainment initiatives.
  • Act as a liaison between the operations team and other internal/external stakeholders, including management, clients, and other teams such as software, operational test, cyber, and several others, to ensure clear communication and alignment on program goals
  • Collaborate with operations and satellite vehicle teams to prioritize, build, and align strategies that enhance operations efficiency and provide scalable processes in a multi-vehicle environment.
  • Driving DRs to closure and bridging the gap between development and sustainment
  • Support internal and external customer meetings through proficient verbal and documented (MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel) communications
  • Some shift work is required (10% or more of the time) in support of operations activities, including nights, holidays, and weekends
  • Some travel required (10% or more of the time)

Basic Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related STEM discipline
  • 12 years of related experience with BS; 10 years with MS; 8 years with PhD.
  • U.S. citizen.
  • Active or Current Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI is required at the time of application.
  • Prior experience executing on-orbit mission operations, performing vehicle system engineering tasks, and/or resolving satellite/ground system anomalies
  • Familiarity with aspects of the satellite system life cycle, including development, launch, commissioning, and sustainment operations
  • Experience writing technical documents for internal or external customers
  • Strong technical communication skills, demonstrating an ability to convey complex engineering concepts to technical and non-technical audiences while maintaining an easy-to-work-with approach

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance
  • Ability to work within a team of diverse, geographically dispersed individuals to achieve mission success
  • Experience with Satellite Mission planning and Rendezvous Proximity Operations
  • Experience as Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead, Technical lead, or other leadership role in a program office or business function with demonstrated team building, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Fleet management experience or at least experience in a multi-vehicle operations environment
  • Strong mission integration and onboarding experience, ensuring a smooth transition of systems, software, and components into operational environments
  • Experience with lights-out operations or spacecraft/ground system automation
  • Experience with quarterly (or periodic) configuration management tracking/updates for in-scope Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) items
  • Familiarity with Confluence, JIRA, SharePoint, Teams, and other group communication tools and workflows

Salary range for Colorado Springs, CO: $155,000-203,000

Salary range for Dulles VA: $171.000-$236,000

Salary Range: $155,000.00 - $236,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
