CBS Interactive has flagged the Executive Editor of Daily Programing - CBS News.com job as unavailable. Let’s keep looking.

CBS News Prime Time anchor John Dickerson seeks an ambitious Associate Producer to work with him in New York City! You will work directly with John on his show and with his duties as a Senior National Correspondent filing stories for Sunday Morning and as CBS's Chief Political Analyst.

The job requires curiosity, organization, and a sense of wonder. We're looking for someone who is perpetually curious, not afraid to be wrong, and always asking 'why' and 'what if' to bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to our storytelling.

Specific skills include exemplary research talents, the ability to handle complicated logistics and planning, and ease of interacting with strangers, experts, and a host of different figures inside CBS News and out.

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as an off-air reporter gathering editorial information. This may include finding relevant statistics, studies, or government documents. An understanding of primary sourcing and where to look for information is vital. That includes scholarly journals and old books long out of print.
  • Scramble on deadline under breaking news conditions, which requires a cool head and the ability to pull information out of the flux of swirling events.
  • Manage John's calendar, travel requests from across the news division, and appearances related to his CBS work on broadcasts.
  • Track John's projects, which occur on various timelines: essays written an hour before the show, story ideas that need follow-up over many months, and planning for special election reports well into the future. Requires taking on urgent requests while keeping up with long-term projects.
  • Manage John's considerable research materials contained on OneNote and his website.
  • Interact on John's behalf with the broader world and internally with the CBS News Prime Time team, all CBS shows, and executives.
  • Interview experts, scholars, and other sources to help John prepare his work.
  • Follow the news and topics John is working on, feeding him new articles and questions you've framed.
  • Fact-check John's work.
  • Willingness to learn how to write, ask questions, think critically, and grow the soft skills necessary to make the job and life meaningful.

Qualifications:

  • College degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of experience working on a daily news broadcast or as a reporter for a print publication.
  • News judgment: knowing what a story is, the vital point, and the essential character.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal). You must love the frustrating act of writing and be hungry to improve.
  • Must excel in a collaborative environment, working hand-in-hand with producers, editors, and the digital team.
  • A broad range of interests.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays when necessary
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines and under pressure while maintaining calm
  • An interest in newsgathering, a hunger for knowledge, and the ability to pivot on short notice
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License with unrestricted ability to drive.
  • Valid U.S. Passport with unrestricted ability to travel domestically and internationally.
