Job Description

The purpose of this position is to "seek to bring forth and establish the cause of Zion."

This position is a fully qualified, journeyman level Hydronic/Pump Engineer in the Mechanical Water Shop. The incumbent performs installation of and preventive maintenance/repair work on mechanical equipment including pumps, water treatment, water feature maintenance, and wells in all Church Headquarters buildings and other as assigned.

Pay range for this position will be: $29 - $33/hr depending on experience and training.

This position qualifies for the Sign-On Incentive and Bi-Annual Retention Incentive for new employees who fill positions that have been hard to fill and will be working within HQF Facility Maintenance.

The retention incentive will be contingent upon the employee’s continued employment with the HQF Facilities Maintenance Team during the specified period.

For the new hire to receive the retention incentive, they must meet performance expectations throughout the program, determined by their manager during 1:1s and evaluations. Final decision will be approved by the Facilities Maintenance Manager, upon approval, Human Resources department will initiate the necessary steps to disburse the incentive in a timely and efficient manner.

Sign-On Incentive

$500 paid upon completion of the employee’s first 2 weeks.

Bi-Annual Retention Incentive

$2,000 paid out over a period of 2 years structured as follows:

  • $500 paid at end of the first 6 months.
  • $500 paid at end of the first year.
  • $1000 paid at end of the second year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, maintains and repairs pump equipment and systems including condensate pumps, fuel systems, laundry equipment, glycol systems, grease traps, building loops, snow melt systems, seals, impellers, bearings and electric motors.
  • Responsible for maintenance and repair of domestic water, fire system pipes, sewer systems, chemical pumps, filtering systems, sand filters, and DI/RO systems.
  • Conducts chemical treatment of open and closed loop, hot and chilled water piping systems, cooling towers, and water features.
  • Perform laser alignment, leveling, and testing of sensitive equipment.
  • Conduct fire pump testing for diesel engines and electrical motor systems.
  • Repairs and services pressure reducing valves, expansion tanks, and electric solenoid valves.
  • Performs layout, design and installation of new pump systems as well as the upgrading and refurbishing of older pump systems.
  • Performs well system and sand filter maintenance including routine checks and adjusting or changing of packing as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate chemical levels.
  • Air monitoring for confined space entry
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by Management.

Qualifications

Requires:

Four years of residential and industrial experience in at least one of the following roles:

  • Pump repair and maintenance technician
  • Water treatment technician, specifically for open and closed HVAC systems
  • Thorough understanding of safety procedures, including lockout tag out, proper uses of PPE and other safety practices
  • Must be able to complete confined space training
  • Mechanical aptitude typically found in someone with the ability to be trained in basic welding, small and industrial machine repair, and other physical plant operations within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints.
  • Must pass all required safety and equipment certifications and trainings.
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • May be required to become DOT certified.
  • Must be able to understand English for general communication, video training, building security, and safety. Also, must be capable of understanding instructions both verbally and in writing and able to listen and ask clarifying questions as needed.
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, push, and pull for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to independently lift and position objects weighing as much as 50 pounds. Must be able to team lift and position objects weighing as much as 100 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to safely climb a ladder and be able to work for extended periods from a ladder, lift or scaffold.
  • Must be able to fit into confined spaces such as manholes, crawl spaces, attics, etc.
  • Must have good eyesight and hearing to properly troubleshoot equipment.
  • Must have at least 20/40 vision with or without corrective lenses and not less than 120 degrees combined horizontal peripheral vision.

Preferred:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to learn new skills typically found in someone with two years of post-high school technical training in above industries preferred.
