JOB SUMMARY
As Vice President, Strategy & Operations, MARRIOTT MEDIA, you will help drive the future direction and development of Marriott’s first in industry, curated Media Network. As a senior leader in this newly developing but fast-growing business unit, this role demands an entrepreneurial mindset, comfort with ambiguity, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving. Success will require grit, agility, and the ability to continuously re-prioritize efforts based on what will drive the greatest impact at any given moment.
You will conduct research & analysis to inform and validate the overarching MARRIOTT MEDIA strategy set by the SVP, Personalization, ensuring it reflects the latest market trends, meets advertiser and Marriott needs, and supports Marriott’s broader business objectives and branding. You will lead an operations team for this new business spanning core functions including advertising technology, advertising operations, and campaign performance measurement and reporting.
You will help shape and deliver MARRIOTT MEDIA’s Ad Tech ecosystem and product roadmap, including prioritizing enhancements, integrating tools and systems, and partnering with engineering and analytics teams to implement scalable, high-impact solutions. This team will grow substantially over the next three years, and you will facilitate the growth and hiring of this team against the projected business ramp including coordination with embedded resources in other teams such as Global Digital and Global Technology. Identifying and managing relationships with the ad solutions vendors selected will also be a key part of this role.
You will also oversee MARRIOTT MEDIA’s Advertising Operations function, responsible for end-to-end campaign execution across owned digital (web, email, app), offsite digital (programmatic, paid social), and on-property (guest room TV, Wi-Fi portal) channels. You will also partner with Marriott’s in-house creative studio, Riott Haus, to ensure media network creative assets meet brand and partner standards and are delivered on time to support seamless campaign execution.
Finally, you will lead the strategy for partner-facing campaign measurement and reporting and define KPIs, develop standardized reporting frameworks and dashboards, and oversee the delivery of actionable insights that drive advertiser retention.
This role requires deep media network experience and a proven ability to scale operations and infrastructure in a complex, cross-functional environment. You are an excellent communicator and leader that will inspire the media network’s product and operations strategy. You are naturally curious and stay current on the MarTech/Ad Tech ecosystem, digital marketing, and the evolving commerce media landscape.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in in business, marketing, or a technical discipline.
- Twelve or more years of experience in digital media, advertising operations, media network strategy, or marketing technology.
- Five or more years in a leadership capacity overseeing cross-functional teams across technical and non-technical functions.
- Three or more years of experience launching or scaling media or ad networks in the travel, hospitality, retail, or e-commerce sectors, with a strong understanding programmatic, managed service, onsite, offsite, and physical channels, and associated reporting and analytic models.
- Strong technical and operational foundation, with relevant experience in digital media advertising technologies & execution (e.g., onsite advertising operations, DSPs, ad servers, CDPs, audience management tools, and media performance platforms, etc.).
- Proven ability to influence and lead in high-growth environments undergoing transformation or organizational scaling in the digital media or technology space.
- Strong strategic, analytical, and critical thinking skills; strong bias towards data-based decision making with the ability to break down complex problems and formulate plans.
Education and Experience Preferred
- MBA or advanced degree in business, marketing, or a technical discipline.
- Demonstrated experience managing vendor/platform selection, integration, and governance for advertising or marketing technology.
- Strong understanding of the Ad Tech and MarTech ecosystem, including ad servers, CDPs, audience management tools, and media performance platforms.
- Deep knowledge of digital media channels, media operations, CRM strategies, and audience activation.
- History of delivering performance-driven business outcomes in matrixed organizations with competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to define and manage KPIs, build operating models, and lead long-term planning efforts.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
Leadership Activities
- Partnering closely with the SVP, Personalization and VP of Sales, support the development and implementation of the overarching strategy for MARRIOTT MEDIA by contributing insights and aligning initiatives with long-term goals and organizational priorities. Help ensure the media network stays ahead of emerging trends, remains differentiated in the marketplace, and supports Marriott’s broader business objectives while advancing the MARRIOTT MEDIA roadmap to deliver value for advertisers.
- Contribute to annual MARRIOTT MEDIA forecast and budget planning in partnership with the SVP, Personalization and VP of Sales, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities, revenue targets, and operational capabilities.
- Help shape MARRIOTT MEDIA’s global expansion strategy, including identifying priority markets, informing go-to-market approaches, and guiding adaptation of offerings to meet distinct regional needs.
- Build and lead high-performing teams across ad operations, advertising solutions, reporting, and creative functions.
- Work with the Sr. Director, Advertising Solutions to define MARRIOTT MEDIA’s Ad Tech ecosystem and product roadmap, ensuring integration with broader strategic goals.
- Oversee advertising operations, ensuring accurate trafficking, QA, delivery, & billing across owned digital, offsite, and on-property channels.
- Lead campaign reporting and measurement strategy, defining KPIs, reporting frameworks, and dashboards in partnership with the Sr. Director, Partner Campaign Reporting to deliver performance results and actionable insights to advertisers.
- Partner with Riott Haus to ensure creative assets meet requirements, align with campaign timelines, and support seamless execution.
- Develop regular, impactful communication of roadmap progress, team performance, and business impacts to be presented to the executive steering committee members & other senior stakeholders.
- Proactively identify and prioritize opportunities to improve workflow efficiency, platform scale, and overall advertiser experiences.
- Drive buy-in with senior leadership across the organization.
Managing Responsibilities with Stakeholders
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders across the organization. Foster a positive climate to build effective teams that are committed to organizational goals and initiatives.
- Update stakeholders on key initiative wins and opportunities, respond to concerns, and solicit feedback. Engage leadership to develop and execute action plans to address gaps.
- Assist direct reports in building and maintaining stakeholder relationships as business partnerships.
Managing Profitability
- Work with teams to develop an operational strategy that is aligned with the brand’s business strategy and leads its execution.
- Review and audit expenses.
- Review reports and financial statements to determine performance against budget.
- Monitor performance against revenue goals.
- Coach and support team to manage expenses and controllable expenses.
Managing and Conducting Human Resources Activities
- Interview and hire employees.
- Promote fair and equitable treatment of employees.
- Facilitate regular, ongoing communication in department (e.g., staff meetings).
- Foster employee commitment to providing excellent service, participate in daily stand-up meetings and model desired service behaviors in all interactions with customer and employees.
- Incorporate customer satisfaction as a component of staff/operations meetings with an emphasis on generating innovative ways to continually improve results.
- Set goals and expectations for direct reports using the performance review process and holds staff accountable for performance goals
- Solicit employee feedback.
- Utilize an “open door policy” and reviews employee satisfaction results to identify and address employee problems or concerns.
- Promote adherence to policies consistently, follows disciplinary procedures and documents items according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures (SOPs and LSOPs) and supports the Peer Review Process.
- Conduct annual performance appraisal with direct reports according to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Champion change to ensure brand and regional business initiatives are implemented and communicate follow-up actions to team as necessary.
- Identify talents of direct reports and their teams and assist with their growth and development plans.
The salary range for this position is $177,100 to $276,400 annually.
