Job Description:

The Summer Programs Day Counselor, reporting to the Director of Summer Programs Student Life, provides counseling support to students enrolled in Summer Programs. Summer Programs consist primarily of high school aged students enrolling in one of the following: Berklee Summer 5-Week Programs, Boston Conservatory at Berklee summer intensive programs, or small Berklee summer programs. The Summer Programs Day Counselor will be an on-campus role from 9-5, Monday - Friday, in a position lasting mid-June to mid-August.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Summer Programs
  • Respond to requests from Summer Programs staff to follow up with students who have been reported as Students of Concern in regard to mental health, depression, anxiety, homesickness, or general need to speak to a counselor.
  • Be present in the counseling space for walk-in students.
  • Schedule sessions with students who have reached out for appointments.
  • Document all student outreach and interactions, as well as parent interactions.
  • Serve as a contact point for students/parents who have used services prior. 
  • Escalate any large-scale concerns as needed to facilitate the process of mandated Berklee counselor intervention.
  • MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience working with teens in a school counseling, social work or therapy setting.
  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Education or related field 
  • KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
  • Understanding that in a population of minors there are restrictions and guidelines on discussions and behavior that are age-appropriate 
  • Knowledge of student development theory
  • Knowledge of mental health strategies with teen population 
  • SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills essential.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to keep notes
  • Must have a strong commitment to providing excellent student care
  • Must be available 9-5 to follow up on Student Concerns.
