What You Will Do

Pratt & Whitney Hot Section Engineering is seeking an Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead for the F135 Program Combustors part family across F135 Base and ECU programs.

In this role you will be responsible for leading the integrated team of discipline specialists through the design, delivery, and validation of the ECU Combustor module (Phase 2 to 4) that will meet requirements, along with any risk mitigation plans. In parallel, the IPTL will also be responsible for Phase 5 (Production) & Phase 6 (Aftermarket) Combustor support for the F135 Base program. Aftermarket support includes sustaining activities related to limit expansions, field and safety investigations, supplier support, and component improvement tasks including Class 1 Engineering Changes.

Integration of F135 Base and ECU programs will be critical to the success of this role. Specific responsibilities include leading an Integrated Product Team (IPT) consisting of a cross functional group of project, design, structures, and aerodynamic team members. They will need to communicate the status of technical issues, and budgets to CIPT leaders, HSE leadership, internal program offices and external customers. They may also need to work closely with purchasing, suppliers, customer support and the sustainment organizations to support engine deliveries and respond to field challenges as needed.

Strong leadership, technical acumen, resource planning, and industrial experience will be critical to bringing managing the IPT Combustors part family and ensuring cohesive communication and awareness between ECU and Production/Aftermarket programs

Candidate is expected to lead Combustor Development and Aftermarket using the Agile framework and EVMS monthly financial reporting. Candidate is also expected to have or obtain CAM training to be an EV Level 3 approver of monthly financial data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team for Gen 5 Military Combustor, anticipated team size 15-20 personnel
  • Coordinate and lead one or more Agile Scrum teams to meet task and technical requirements.
  • Identify and address project execution problems, gain alignment, and lead resolution to ensure the successful completion of multi-disciplinary tasks.
  • Responsible for all field safety items in the Safety Management System, and will own and execute safety investigations from findings and root cause through management report out.
  • Facilitates project tasks with the various functional organizations to ensure alignment with overall project objectives.
  • Leading organizational alignment through discussions and presentations of status and technical content to HSE Leadership, CIPT, SIPT and Pratt & Whitney senior leadership.
  • Be the primary technical focal to the external JPO customer
  • Initiate and manage hardware procurement/industrial effort as the engineering technical contact.
  • Coordinate evaluation and disposition of quality non-conformances and supplier requests for information.
  • The ability to travel 20% of the time; includes team visits and vendor visits

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 8 years of experience in engineering with a bachelor’s degree and 5 with an advanced degree
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • CAM Experience Preferred
  • Agile experience Preferred
  • Experience working in the Aerospace Industry, specifically gas turbine engines, is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness and accomplishments leading multi-discipline teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, technical writing, and engineering presentations to all levels.
  • Working proficiency with MS Office, Teamcenter, SAP, MS Project / scheduling software.
  • Working knowledge of project management.

Hot Section Engineering (HSE)

Hot Section Engineering is responsible for the design, development, technology maturation and in service support of all diffuser cases, combustors, turbines (vanes, blades, rotors and cases), augmenters (military), nozzles and associated fuel systems for all military, commercial and industrial engine models and radial auxiliary power units.

Technical disciplines in HSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Durability and Product Definition.

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
