Coordinator II – Graphic Design

Position Purpose
The Coordinator II - Graphic Design supports Fort Worth ISD’s mission by creating high-quality visual content that communicates, celebrates, and elevates the district’s brand. This role is responsible for designing print and digital materials that promote schools, programs, events, and initiatives in a clear, engaging, and consistent manner. The Graphic Designer collaborates with departments across the district to ensure all communications reflect FWISD’s values and connect meaningfully with students, families, staff, and the community.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Collaborate across departments on formulating the most effective way to support district goals and objectives with the use of graphics and visual elements.
- Create original graphics to support a multitude of projects/initiatives for both internal and external audiences, including but not limited to promotional pieces, banners, social media, presentations, mailers, invitations, signage, publications, and websites.
- Under the supervision of the Director of Marketing and Creative Communications, ensure all visual materials reflect the district’s brand identity, tone, and messaging.
- Prioritize and manage multiple design projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality and creativity.
- Prepare and deliver print-ready and web-optimized files; following the direction of the Director of Marketing and Creative Communications, work with vendors to ensure proper production specifications and quality standards.
- Offer input on visual storytelling, campaign concepts, and communication strategies that enhance engagement with students, staff, families, and the community.
- When necessary, assist in maintaining the visual elements of district websites, digital signage, and social media platforms as needed.
- Keep up-to-date with design tools, trends, and best practices to bring fresh, innovative ideas to district communications.
Safety
- Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of computer software programs that produce design products, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, and InDesign.
- Knowledge of branding and marketing, and how to disseminate the message.
- Knowledge of District policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Skill at the intermediate level, working with Google, Microsoft Office 365, especially Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Skill in working with initiatives that require collaboration with the District and outside agencies and organizations.
- Skill in working with online newsletter builder platforms.
- Knowledge of color theory and how colors interact, affect emotions, and perceptions.
- Knowledge of typography, including font selection, pairing, kerning, and leading.
- Ability to adapt or modify processes in response to changing circumstances.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, policies, and procedures relating to District operations.
- Ability to work effectively in collaborative teams, including teams from other departments.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.

Travel Requirements
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; communications and marketing equipment, including digital/video camera, microphones/speakers, and props for events.
- Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; frequent walking
- Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
- Environment: Works in an office setting; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours.
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
- Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Education:
- An Associate of Arts (AA) degree or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Visual Arts, Advertising, or related field preferred.
- Certification/License: None.
- Experience:
- 3 years’ experience in digital graphic design, preferably in the education field or an advertising agency.
- Experience in designing motion and animated designs to support creative projects preferred.
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or similar design tools.
- Experience in managing and designing for WordPress and other current content management systems (CMS).
- Photography experience and proficiency with photo-editing software.
