Job Summary
The Director of Strategy – Engineering will be responsible for driving strategic planning, portfolio alignment, and cross-business integration across Vertiv’s global Engineering function. This high-impact leadership role will guide and shape the long-term roadmap for Engineering in alignment with Vertiv’s Corporate Strategy, Business Units (BUs), and global Product Lines. The Director will lead a centralized Strategy team, manage a team of strategic planners, and collaborate closely with business unit level strategy teams to drive a unified view of innovation, investment, and growth opportunities.
This position will be based onsite at Vertiv's Westerville, OH - HQ location.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and lead a global Engineering strategic planning process that aligns with Corporate Strategy, BU strategies, and M&A priorities. Ensure continuity, integration, and execution across annual and long-range plans.
- Drive engineering portfolio alignment across product lines and geographies to optimize investment and resource allocation. Evaluate and refine the engineering portfolio to ensure alignment with market trends, customer needs, and future growth areas.
- Partner with Corporate Development and Engineering teams to assess strategic fit and integration plans for acquisitions. Lead engineering-related due diligence and synergy identification from a portfolio and technology perspective.
- Work in close partnership with business unit strategy leaders to ensure Engineering’s strategic priorities are integrated with business-level goals. Create a feedback loop for early insight into customer trends, regional differences, and emerging technologies.
- Build, manage, and develop a high-performing global team of Engineering strategic planners. Foster a culture of strategic thinking, analytical rigor, and business partnership.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Innovation, R&D, Finance, and other functional teams to evaluate strategic opportunities and influence enterprise-wide decisions through data and insights.
- Synthesize complex strategies into compelling narratives for executive leadership. Present regular updates on portfolio health, key initiatives, and strategic risks and opportunities.
- Be the focal point for all operating council and Board of Directors meetings from a presentation preparation and logistics standpoint.
- Participate in business reviews, developing key strategic metrics, providing support for Advisory Councils, etc. Preparation and diligence around board level materials
- Creating a process for continued evaluation of our strategic initiatives and governance around that.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Business; MBA preferred
- 10-15 years of related experience, preferring experience with some of (or combination of) Vertiv's portfolio of products (i.e. UPS, Battery/Energy Storage, Thermal/HVAC, Integrated Solutions, Rack PDU's, Switchgear, Microgrid)
- Experience identifying both organic and inorganic opportunities. Successful in formulating acquisition strategy and screening potential targets.
