Responsibilities

Provides general and specialized support for the Human Resources Department in employment, compensation, unemployment insurance, benefits, employee relations, retirement programs, training, and other related areas. Support activities include report generation, presentation graphics, electronic data management, filing, and record keeping.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares and maintains employee personnel files, records, and information; processes personnel transactions and records employee information such as personal data, compensation, benefits, and termination data; answers inquiries from outside agencies to verify employment status.
  • Posts job vacancies internally and externally using a recruiting software program (ICIMs); posts job vacancies on bulletin boards; collects, screens, and processes employment applications.
  • Conducts job interviews; prepares job offer letters; reviews new hire paperwork for accuracy and completeness; verifies work status; ensures new hire information is correctly submitted to Infinium; conducts exit interviews with terminating employees.
  • Processes hourly and salaried employee payroll in Kronos timekeeping system; maintains vacation requests and shift calendar.
  • Maintains databases and spreadsheets on attendance, personal days, and corrective disciplines.
  • Verifies accuracy of information for all employees through the Self Service system during annual benefits open enrollment period; verifies accuracy of information for new hires and status changes.
  • Conducts new hire and employee benefits onboarding/orientation; responds to employee inquiries regarding benefits and other employment and policy questions.
  • Prepares documentation on terminations to ensure that employee receives COBRA notification and other legally required information; provides documentation for unemployment claims to requesting agencies.
  • Manages the leave process by reviewing requests for leaves of absence (STD, LTD, FMLA) and forwards to Human Resources Manager for review; maintains up-to-date information on all leaves of absences and ensures that appropriate documentation is on file to support requests.
  • Engages employees in the interactive process for all medical leave requests to ensure proper procedures are followed and documented; processes medical leave requests after approval by Human Resources Manager.
  • Participates in employee of choice safety, quality, engagement, and inspection programs.
  • Assists with a variety of reporting requirements by gathering data, developing reports or maintaining files. Reports may include attendance, headcount, Affirmative Action, turnover, leaves of absence and disability payments.
  • Follows all Company policies regarding safety, quality, and attendance; performs duties in a safe manner and reports all observed safety hazards to management; acts as a role model for safety.
  • Processes retirement requests (pension/401k) and coordinates with program administrators.
  • Perform other related functions and duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

  • Education: Knowledge normally acquired through completion of a two year Associates Degree required in Business, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: In addition to the educational requirements, 2 - 4 years of directly related administrative support experience preferably in a function requiring the use of confidentiality; prior experience in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
  • Preferably fluent in ENGLISH and SPANISH (bilingual); ability to translate speech and documents; excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proficient in the use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to adhere to Berry’s Safety, Health, and Environmental Vision, Policy, and Standards.
  • Primarily a day shift office work environment; ability to work overtime, holidays, weekends, days, or nights as needed.
  • Ability to stand, sit, kneel, bend, stoop, and reach multiple times per day.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to work in warm, humid, and cool climates.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shoes/boots, and gloves.
