Jacobs is searching for a dynamic Mechanical Technician to join our team in El Segundo, CA. In this role, you'll be responsible for the mechanical maintenance of the project’s equipment and infrastructure. Technicians will be assigned either to the Corrective or Preventative Mechanical Maintenance groups by the Maintenance and Asset Manager. Special projects may require technicians to be assigned to the other group to complete the project’s objectives. Work may include maintenance and repairs on various types of equipment, such as pumps, conveyor systems, gear boxes, fans, blowers, mixers, and chemical feed equipment. Uses both hands and machine tools in the repairs and maintenance of equipment and plant buildings. Loads and unloads, moves and transports tools, material, and freight and supplies.

Principal Areas of Responsibility

  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment and/or water treatment, engineering, principles and methods Observes all on-the-job safety regulations and promotes safe practices, procedures and work habits
  • Under direct supervision, maintenance and repair work on various types of equipment, pumps, conveyor systems, gearboxes, fans, blowers, mixers and chemical feed pumps and auxiliary equipment
  • Follow and apply industry best practices and standards
  • While using hand and machine tools, perform repair and maintenance of equipment and plant buildings
  • Use computerized maintenance management software for record-keeping
  • Coordinate with other departments for Lock-Out / Tag-Outs procedures
  • Load and unload, move and transport material, equipment, freight and supplies
  • Fill out safety work plans for assigned tasks
  • Perform other duties as needed and/or required to facilitate operations

Here's what you'll need

  • CWEA Mechanical Technologist Grade II is required or within 18 months of hire date
  • Four (4) or more years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater/treatment facilities or a similar industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety compliance regulations and ability to comply with all safety standards
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and standards on predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance methods and procedures commonly used in the maintenance and repair of equipment and plant infrastructure
  • Ability to operate light trucks, forklift, and small construction equipment
  • Ability to operate basic hand and power tools
  • Valid CA Driver’s License is required with no major infractions

Ideally, You’ll Also Have

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • Associate’s degree in related field is preferred
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and communicate both verbally and in writing and work with all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

The work area can involve a working environment indoors, as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. Safety is of the utmost importance. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.

Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination when preparing reports and using a computer keyboard, have vision sufficient to read computer screens, printed documents and operate office equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour time period must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, wear and use appropriate safety equipment.

Technical dexterity is required in performing chemical and instrumental analytical procedures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be exposed to odors, silica, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, greases, oils, electrical energy, solvents and vibrations. The employee may work on slippery/uneven surfaces, around machinery with moving parts, moving objects/vehicles, and ladder/scaffolding, below ground and may be exposed to water and other liquid materials.

The employee will be expected to follow the H&S Manual guidelines and wear the appropriate PPE as instructed.

Posted Salary Range: Upper

The base salary range for this position is $52,700.00 to $70,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
