Overview of the project
The Engaging Kenyan Youth in Agriculture and Nutrition (EKYAN) project aims to create sustainable economic opportunities for young people in the agricultural sector, particularly those who are not in school, thereby contributing to Kenya's broader development goals. The project is funded by UNICEF under the Generation Unlimited umbrella. The project started in November 2024 and is expected to end in April 2026 (contingent on donor confirmation). The area of intervention includes Samburu, Busia and Kisumu Counties with an assigned target of 5,000 youth.
The goal of the project is to improve the perception and engagement of young people in agriculture and positively contribute to economic livelihoods, food systems and nutritional status. The project reports to UNICEF outcome 3: Female youth provided with market-driven upskilling to drive business creation and growth within local economies and increase exposure to select agri-business models.
Project Impact
The EKYAN project aims for 5,000 young people to benefit from skilling, employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in agribusiness, while rural livelihoods are improved and made more climate resilient. It is designed around three main areas: 1) Skilling and capacity building, 2) Access to inclusive finance to start and scale agri-businesses and 3) Access to inclusive and equitable markets for agricultural products.
Monitoring, Evaluation and learning needs for EKYAN
Together with the Country MEAL Manager the officer will set up the ME&L system, track progress and share learnings with partners, donors and other stakeholders. The process requires close interaction with the youth to ensure a youth participatory approach to data collection and learning and close accompaniment of partners in the consortium to ensure adherence to MEL timelines and standards.
Job Description
The ME&L Officer will be responsible for ensuring quality implementation of both project’s ME&L framework, development of data collection tools, data management and analysis, generation of evidence for learning questions and documentation of success stories. Additionally, the ME&L officer will be responsible for: Data management Keep oversight of the SNVs digital data management system (LogAlto) and IATI M&E data management, ensuring the following happens:

Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Terms of Appointment: This is a full-time position based at the SNV Office in Nairobi and has a fixed term of 3 months from July to September 2025 with an extension of 7 months from October 2025 to April 2026 contingent on donor funding. The MEL Officer will report directly to the Project Manager EKYAN Kenya, with a dotted line to country MEL manager.
