Job Description Summary

The NTI Programs & New Initiatives Systems Engineering Leader will drive Demonstrator Programs execution (e.g. AMBER cPGB, RACER) through requirements definition, concept, preliminary and detailed design, testing, flight readiness and flight campaign support by leading a team of engineers responsible for the engineering objectives at system / module level. He/she also lead and coordinate the definition of Avio Aero technological roadmap for RotorDrive Systems, Propeller Gearboxes and more in general for power transmissions in close collaboration with other Engineering Sections. He/she will also support the cross functional team during the Request For Information (RFI) and Request For Proposal (RFP) phases partnering within the Sales team for Avio Aero business development. He/she tracks assigned initiatives and executes corrective actions to meet cost, schedule, and technical objectives, he/she manage engineering program risks.

The main NTI program is the combining Propeller Gearbox for AMBER program and the support to flight test campaign of RACER Helicopter demonstrator, which are also aimed at developing new technologies to be ready available for the Next Generation of Rotorcrafts and Power Reduction Gearboxes for the Next Generation of GE Aviation Engine centerlines.

The position requires accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage the team of System Engineers for the assigned products to create a plan and identify resource to complete all Design Phases and Program Gates in line with the NTI process achieving all KPIs goals (Non Recurring development Cost, Milestone On time delivery). Define and manage the annual budget, negotiate resource with all departments and create milestone plan and KPI to monitor the progress. Produce monthly report to the leadership team.
  • Provide functional leadership of the team, promoting professional growth through timely performance feedback, mentoring, coaching, and counseling to develop engineering talents within his/her direct reports to support current and future products. Maintain broad awareness of efforts within the Systems Engineering team to ensure technical quality excellence, on time delivery for the engineering milestones, appropriate use of resources, and responsiveness to customer / program needs. Release the performance appraisals and participate in salary planning.
  • Contribute in the definition of the Avio Aero technological roadmap for RotorDrive Systems, Propeller Gearboxes and more in general for power transmissions in close collaboration with other Engineering Sections (such as CAM for electrification, ATO for Gears leading edge methodologies, Thermal Management Systems and Oil Off performances, Exp. Testing for experimental validations, EMS for material and process development, …).
  • Lead and coordinate the engineering effort to support the cross functional team during the Request For Information (RFI) and Request For Proposal (RFP) phases partnering within the Sales team for Avio Aero business development. Contribute in performing the Program Risk Assessment providing the technical risk figures and supporting the team in properly allocating program contingency. Partner with Commercial and Legal team in contract definition and negotiation up to Program Award. Collect from all Engineering Design Organizations the Non Recurring Cost (NRC) figures including but not limited to Experimental Testing, Technological Maturation efforts, consultancies and risk mitigation actions.
  • Develop/execute strategy and drive key deliverables and milestones relevant to the cPGB to meet the overall objectives of the AMBER program and other assigned research programs (e.g. the endurance test of a counter-rotating MGB, the new material and coatings characterization for helicopter applications, the high speed free wheel test rig procurement and test campaign, …); ensure the fulfillment of Engineering milestones on time, on cost, on quality; ensure fulfillment of Customer Technical Requirements and contractual agreements engineering wise; Support the Program Manager and Supply Chain for the sustaining effort on AS360 and AS330 legacy Airbus Helicopter programs.
  • Develops and maintains trusted relationships with Customer through on-going dialogue and effective technical communication. Collaborates with Customer, Regulatory Agencies, and partners to establish the best technical solutions.
  • Drive and Coordinate Development Prototypes Build and relevant Test Activities;
  • Partner with other Company Functions involved in the demo / technological maturation programs execution up to Flight Readiness / Certification by providing technical documentation in accordance to Company Policies and Procedures and consulting service;
  • Monitor and report to Senior Leadership about project status and significant business and technical issues;
  • Ensure a rigorous process is followed in the execution of Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action of product and process issues;
  • Develop/Execute Ensure fulfillment of Helo Ecosystem framework
  • Provide leadership for unyielding compliance and integrity;
  • Focus on protection of Intellectual Property (IP);

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering Master Degree;
  • Solid and proven experience in Engineering/R&D division with a leadership role;
  • Ability to lead horizontally with multi-functional and multi-cultural teams;
  • Capability to work in multicultural environment, preferable previous experience on helicopter gearbox and/or power gearboxes and/or complex systems
  • Strong coaching expertise and success in working across the business functions and the global teams
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills;
  • Systemic mindset and problem solver
  • Fluent Italian and English Knowledge;
  • Work VISA, according to local regulation, is required
  • Travel availability as required by the Business

Desired Characteristics

  • Previous experience with New Technology Introduction (NTI), New Product Introduction (NPI) or New Initiatives process will be considered a plus;
  • Knowledge of gearbox technical requirements, certification requirements, design solutions and technologies
  • Knowledge of Lean principles and methodologies
